same tbh, and I already saw it twice in London
Perestroika has my favorite scene in all of Angels and that’s the confrontation between Louis and Joe about court decisions Joe wrote on behalf of the judge. Is there any moment more devastating than when Louis reveals that the man kept his pension, but the court changed their decision on why he got to keep it? I share Louis’ pain and anger so intensely and I couldn’t hold it together any longer. The tears started and by the time we hit “we won’t die secret deaths anymore,” I was a mess.
I love the scene at Bethesda Fountain so much. It reminds me of the epilogue in The Normal Heart. A perfect way to end the evening. (Louis’ lines about not a literal Jerusalem/nobody supports Palestine more than me are so hysterical and James McArdle really does wonders with Louis throughout.)
Who knew Andrew Garfield had this performance in him? I want to be best friends with Prior and Belize; how fun would it be to watch Drag Race with them?!
A big thank you to everyone involved in this production. The great work has begun indeed!
You guys have got me so excited for this!

Beth Malone went on as the Angel/Mormon Mother/Emily last night unscheduled (3/7) since Amanda Lawrence was out. I like Amanda Lawrence better in the role but enjoyed getting to see both actors play the part. Another incredible night- didn't love the staging for the final scene but truly excellent production. It is on my list see a second time.
going tonight, looking forward to it as I saw the original way back when. Got TDF tickets in Row K of Mezz center

I saw this production on the previous two Sundays via TDF. I found the cast to be extraordinary and the direction helped elevate the evening. I did find the physical production to be rather dark and unappealing but the quality of the work got me passed it. I always describe this play as a big, sprawling, fabulous mess. Seeing this reminds me of George S. Kaufman's famous adage that "nothing in life should be greater than two hours!" The writing is so good but I often wonder what would this piece look like if Mr. Kushner got this evening down to under three hours per evening. Besides the fact that the Producers would be thrilled to avoid the golden overtime clause in all of the union contracts, I wonder if the impact would be even stronger. Just a thought. It still is an extraordinary evening that is well worth experiencing. As for the comment from that mint guy ("After Eight"..or do they still make those lil suckers?). I think that it's hard to compare one great work of a Playwright with those who have a body of work that is truly extraordinary. Kushner has never surpassed or even equaled this work during the past 25 years. I think that is what After Eight was getting at. I always leave the snark at the door cause frankly I find it a waste of time and what kind of Psychoshrinkacologist would I be if I let my inner "mofo "out all the time:)
Angels in America would suck if it were cut down to three hours.

It would suck if the playwright found a way to cut 30 minutes from part one and 45 minutes from part two? I have more confidence in Mr. Kushner's talents than to dismiss the task of careful pruning his opus. I'm just wondering what it would look like if he undertook that task.

Kushner cut both parts extensively during the original productions, often discarding complete storylines.
The van Hove BAM production combined both parts into around five hours and reportedly Kushner was pleased with it, so he certainly has seen one take on significant streamlining.
If he felt something could be easily cut for good, I imagine he would have already done it, particularly since he continues to tinker with Perestroika each time a new production occurs.

To anyone interested, there are some tickets in the rear mezz now available for opening night. Shows at 12pm & 6pm on 3/25
So I know some of you guys were talking about upgrading seats. How much more was it to upgrade? Would I go to ticketmaster or the box office to do so? I have tickets this week in row v in the orchestra on the far left. I'm willing to pay extra to get a better view but not an upsurd amount. I'm looking forward to the show!
You’d have to call them if you purchased through Ticketmaster. Assuming you paid around $200 for that seat, the rest of the orchestra is pretty much $498, with some $318 seats and the front row being $338. Again, assuming your ticket total was around $200, you’d have to pay the difference plus $5 exchange fee (which they ignore sometimes) and it’d end up costing you around $150 more after fees if you switched to Front row (best deal if you’re going to upgrade, in my opinion).

Ok so I am doing the 3/10 double header and this is my first ever Angels in America. Any tips on how to get through the day? With Wagner operas I'm always armed with extra water, snacks, advil, etc. Is this necessary for Angels? Is caffeine between shows a good idea? (I don't want to be too jacked to sleep when it's finally over). Advice would be appreciated.
Yikes! Nevermind then! I paid $94 for my tickets altogether so I'm assuming if I were to upgrade it'd be a pretty penny. Thanks for the info though!
Can anyone let me know if I can pick up my ticketmaster tickets from the box office instead of printing them myself at home?

Do not do a carb-heavy dinner and have a protein bar and/or almonds to snack on during intermissions. But the show does not feel anywhere near as long as it is.

Go to your order info on a computer and next to where it says Ticket Delivery (or something along the lines of that) press change delivery option and you'll be able to switch to will call.
I was little surprised to see a big gaggle outside of the stage door last night after Part 1. After 3+ hours I would just want to go home and not have to sign autographs or take pictures. I'm sure it's exhausting for them and then have to deal with a crowd at the stage door...ugh.

Won the lottery and saw part 1 last night but unfortunately can't make tonight's show for part 2. If anyone is interested I'll sell one or two.

Now that a bunch of you have been able to go— there are a ton of seats available for the date I’m looking at. Second row center mezz vs center orchestra row P or so vs house left rows J-L but 4 seats in? There are almost too many options and I haven’t been to the Neil Simon since Hairspray. I know there are other threads about this from prior shows, but this production is so big I figured I would check in now that many have seen it from various locations.
A good dilemma to have, certainly.
If you’re sitting in the center mezzanine you going to have to walk by a lot of people to get your seats. This can be especially tough with the show because there’s three acts and you really need to stand up between acts. Second row mezzanine would probably be the better seats IMO

Part 1 was absolutely fantastic. The time flies by and doesn't feel like 3+ hours. The acting is phenomenal

Agree completely with Tramyar. Not a wasted or dull moment.
Only minor negative I thought was the use of music. Unnecessary and obtrusive. So full of crescendos that it started to sound like an episode of "Perry Mason" or "Law and Order." If that's always been part of the play, I still feel the same way.
