I do not know anything about Rachel besides the video that was posted here...so as someone who recalls Patti (video), Lonnie Ackerman (tour), Madonna and Faye Dunaway (in the Eva Peron movie), Rachel is more than capable of portraying Eva. The determination behind the faux innocence was all there in that video. I'm not easily impressed and she pulled me right into her story. No pushing - very quiet and simple - pure seduction.

I realize it's just one song, but it is THE song.

That story doesn't seem to be the one for "A New Argentina" or "Rainbow High." Yes it's "the" song but "the song" doesn't make up for it if some other songs stick out like a sore thumb.

More than just her voice, I was speaking to her command of the character of Eva. As I said, I am not familiar with her work, but her acting in this video, where she sings a cappella looking directly into the camera, I believe she can be a wonderful Evita. Just something about her - that indefinable "it."
I don't think her name is yet a box office draw....but she could be on her way.
I don't know how I feel about her possible casting, she seems too young - but truth be told, that could be because I've gotten so much older, and my perspective is different!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Well the show is Eva from 15-33. If the show opens on broadway in 2024 she would be 23-24. I think that works. she has Snow White and Hunger Games movies premiering soon. She’s a huge name with Gen Z. She’s truly a star, and she has the vocals and acting chops to back it up.

I don't think they announced a Broadway transfer yet.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

You're right, of course your right....its so odd how my mind thinks of Evita as older than that -even though I KNOW she died at only 33. Thanks for reminding me on the facts!
I'll probably be picking up Tix to see this at the ART. For those that have never been, the Loeb Theater is a really lovely space....come visit us in Boston!

I remember the city center run had two Evas. Any scuttlebutt if they'll continue that trend? If I remember correctly it was 'young eva' until a switch in Buenos Aires. Twas a bit ago and much of that production didn't stick in my memory. Other than the flying flowers and 'don't cry for me' dress.

Director has already said in a recent interview there will be only 1 Eva.
Evita is known to shred voices. Some productions have 3 Eva’s or they just act the role more than sing ( Elena Roger). Belting a new Argentina, Buenos Aires, Rainbow High, Don’t cry for me Argentina and countless other songs 8 times a week would be a tall task for even the best Broadway performers.

This choice still doesn't make sense to me. So they had two Evas but switched...15 minutes into the show?
As far as I know there is no Broadway run announced yet. This a co-production of ART and Shakespeare Theatre in DC. So far they are the only runs planned.

I liked the way they did it, because even though they switched, younger Eva would still show up for certain scenes. In the intro they had her watching the funeral like she was seeing what became of her future. During Another Suitcase, they made it into a trio with the mistress and both Evas so you could tell that younger Eva had essentially experienced the same thing while older Eva was reflecting on it while still maintaining her position against the mistress. It didn't work the entire time and sometimes it felt like younger Eva was on stage just for the sake of giving her something to do again, but I think it drew a nice parallel to almost create dialogue between the two Evas in seeing what the future would be and remembering who she used to be.
I’m curious how we still don’t have casting for this… tickets went on sale last week and I bought them in hopes that Rachel will be Eva, but the lack of announcement has me worried. Is it possible negotiations are still going on? Are they delaying the announcement because she is doing Shazam press?
side note, I checked availability for a friend last night and noticed the tickets increased in price since I bought mine so could it be an announcement is coming soon?

From what I hear, they start rehearsals first week of April, so announcement will be made very very soon. It is Rachel Zegler as Eva

Rachel Zegler was just announced as a co-star of a new A24 film, which only substantiates the rumors I've heard that she is not doing either out of town run, but will then join the company as Eva when it comes to Broadway in winter/spring of 2024. Time will tell, I suppose.

Well that's disappointing if true. But understandable.

Ps there’s no timeline for the movie. Plus the WGA strike stars May 1st, no movies will shoot for the next few months.
I saw an article that said it's filming in New Jersey from 3/30 - 4/27, and there's a notice on Backstage looking for background actors/extras that need to be available from 4/5 - 4/20, so not sure if I believe the whole "no timeline" thing.
