Everything about his performance seemed fake. Fake vocals (he was not singing, and you maybe could tell he was lipsynching), and the riffing. God awful. It was like he was putting on a huge show (which granted, you want but this wasn't a show, this was like the porn palace)

See Gaga, it just seems so natural for her to put on a show, because she can ACTUALLY put on a show with being entertained. Gaga is more avant garde while Glambert is more "theatrics" if you wanna call them that.

Oh, and Glambert's choreographer should be shot. But Gaga looked like the ensemble of the Lion King.

Lambert was singing live. I know this for a fact AND it is the reason why he sounded so *terrible*. Too bad for him!

I wish Gaga didn't try so hard with her theatrics and circus acts.Stop putting on such a show and sing or dance. do something without all the extras to make up for lack of talent. there's nothing natural about anything she does or wears. It's all so fake.

I think Adam is more natural than she is if you want to compare the two.

Lady Gaga doesn't lack for talent. Did you ever consider that this is how she chooses to create her work? Maybe you don't like it. Your dislike hasn't unlocked some secret lack of talent.

Sorry Jane, but I think you are too close minded to see how talented GaGa actually is.

First of all, don't ever be sorry for your opinions.

Second of all, remember that it is just that-your opinion. there are plenty of others besides me who don't opine that Lady Gaga is talented.

third - how did you form the opinion that I'm closed minded? You don't know me from Adam (pun intended). OR - are you calling me closed minded because I don't happen to agree with YOU. that's pretty closed minded of you.

"Lady Gaga doesn't lack for talent."

I don't share your opinion, ok?

"Your dislike hasn't unlocked some secret lack of talent."

Who ever said it has? why was that statement necessary. Why haven't you reprimanded any of the others who share my same opinion?

Scratch that last question - I know EXACTLY why.

Jane2 - In all fairness, Lady Gaga (Stefani Germanotta) is actually very talented. She attended NYU for musical theatre.

I agree with the kooky antics and alarming behavior but she is gifted. See this video, prior to her GaGa days, for evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM51qOpwcIM&feature=player_embedded

Wonderful girl. It's a shame she didn't stick with it.... as Stefani. Oh well!

things here will never change. Some people must resort to insulting others because they just can't stand it if someone disagrees with them.

Get over it and grow up people.

p.s. music snob - attending school doesn't make a person talented. Talent is a god given gift.

Okay, but it just doesn't make sense how you think she has ZERO talent what so ever. Watch the video the person above posted. Obviously she has some talent.

CS-I posted on the OT board that I might have had a different opinion of Gaga had there not been so much divertissement on the stage. It's hard to tell if she can sing and dance when there's almost none of it in her circus acts.

I'm old, I know it, but instead of calling me closed minded, it should be considered that I've been around. I've seen everything that she's doing way before she came along. To me it's nothing unique. Leigh Bowery, anyone?

If you understand Bowery and you understand Madonna, I'm boggled you don't understand LG. But, hey, it's your opinion.

And, no, there's no secret subtext why I chose to respond to you. You just lucked out.

jrb - I'm just not clear on what she's all about. I admit I've only seen her in a handful of tv appearances, but they've all been a mishmosh of a circus on the stage. I have no idea what it would be like to hear her sing a song all by herself, or dance a number alone.

"Fake vocals (he was not singing, and you maybe could tell he was lipsynching)"

OMG are you kidding me?? haha. He was MOST DEFINITELY singing live- the vocals were very all over the place (which Adam himself fully admits- he's mentioned in virtually every interview that his only real regret in the performance was that he didn't sing it better). Trust me, just look up the music video for the song and you'll see that it's completely different than the AMA performance haha

I think most people are definitely in agreement that Adam's performance was a hot mess- and I say this as a hardcore fan, as anyone who knows me would know. Even Adam himself really has no problem admitting that he got too excited and went a little crazy, and the quality of the performance suffered for it.

However, what he isn't apologizing for- and I back him completely on this- is the fact that he dared to give a highly provocative performance. He's 100% right that there's a huge double standard in our culture. If a female artist had given the exact same performance, it would NOT have been a big deal.

It's not that the performance didn't go into trashy territory- it did- but the fact that people are so up in arms about it when female performers go into trashy territory all the time and no one bats an eye is just ridiculous. And that's really what he's defending.

I think this is a really good interview where he basically explains everything I just said, but much more eloquently haha:
https://popwatch.ew.com/2009/11/25/adam-lambert-cbs-gay-kiss-elisabeth-hasselbeck/
(seriously, I recommend it- he has a lot of great thoughts on everything :))

Oh and on the subject of GaGa:
I think she's really cool re: Adam Lambert on the AMAs I wasn't really a fan at first because I don't tend to be a fan of dance music. But she DOES have a great voice and I find her performances and music videos reeeeally awesome and creative and artistic. Especially the Bad Romance video- freaking BRILLIANT. SO cool.

I'll only say this more, his riffs were a hot mess. Like almost Rum Tum Tugger mixed with Eden Espinosa riffs!

^daaang, she's SO freaking good! Girl's got major vocal, piano, AND songwriting skills! :)

And yes, his riffs were all over the place. Which is completely NOT normal Adam standards.

Normal Adam standards is more like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Oq_7jYUvo

Flawless.

I really do believe him when he says that he just had way too much of an adrenaline rush and it got the best of him. I know when I get really excited/nervous/have a big adrenaline rush my voice (just as in speaking voice) gets all crazy and high pitched and just.. not good. haha. So I totally can believe that's what happened.

I think he just needs to learn how to calm himself down before big exciting performances like that so that he can really focus on the vocals. He obviously HAS all the vocal ability in the world. So it's just a mental thing. He'll learn I'm sure- he's still brand new at all of this, at least on such a large scale.

Adam Lambert is what you would get if you crossbred Beyonce with Justin Timberlake.

A douche who thinks he's original/authentic/unique and stepping up the pop music game with a few tricks, and a total rip-off-other-artists oversinging riff-tastic mess.

Was I the only person that watched his performance and just though: Ouch.

I hope he's got cords of steel to be doing that. Even Alice Ripley has supposedly had vocal troubles with Next to Normal and I was convinced for a long time that she had cords of steel. Adam is a good performer but I feel that he just has the chemistry to be on stage. As in a theatrical stage, not a concert stage. But he'll make money regardless of what I think. I just hope he's taking care of himself.

Unless someone does a revival of RHPS, I will put money that he will never on Broadway. With his performance at the AMAs, producers would only hire him for either "Chicago" or some WEIRD avant garde rock musical.

And you know how Chicago rolls.

yeah, it was pretty clear he was singing live. He sounded mediocre I thought but I'd rather hear a live performance than a fake recording.

I don't pay much attention to American Idol, so I really didn't know what Adam did there. I do watch "General Hospital," and there's a song that plays when James Franco's character appears on the show. I read that Adam Lambert sings it (it's a cover of a cover of a Tears for Fears song). I think the guy can really sing, just based on his performance of that song. I didn't see the AMA thing, either. But if he gets rid of the gimmicks, he can have a good career.
