Adam Pascal and Olivia Valli Will Lead the Tour of PRETTY WOMAN

At first I was like, hey that's nice to see Adam Pascal onstage. But then I looked up their ages. Adam is 50 and Olivia is I believe 27 or 28? I dunno, I feel like in 1990 and because of who they were, a large age difference could work. But nowadays? I dunno. 

Maybe the worst Broadway musical I've ever seen. Not one good song. The set looked cheap. Staging was boring. Awful. 

But that said, I'd go to see Pascal. Love his vocals. 

Saw this last night in Detroit. Overall very meh. I found the book mediocre and the score especially in the first act very rhymey, very ABAB. Most of the set was on wheels the ensemble pushed around and the only automation out of the wings were palm trees to frame the stage. That being said, Adam Pascal was amazing as I knew he'd be, but a terrific performance can only do so much when the material is lacking. Olivia Valli was good too. I really liked her, but my companion said she was overplaying and acting a caricature. Take of that what you will. Overall, a decent night at the theatre, only if so due to the performances.

Watched the tour last night. I have never had any interest in watching this show, but I was interested in seeing Olivia and Adam. I have also never seen the movie (I know), so this was all completely fresh to me.

I surprisingly had a really good time. I thought the cast was really great, especially the ensemble. It might be because they're only a few weeks into the run, but they were in top shape in their dancing and singing. I have normally found tours to be a little lackluster in dancing - which I attribute to the traveling. I noticed this especially in Hamilton, but this ensemble was really working and it looked like they were having so much fun.

Adam was a rock star. His voice is perfect for this role. I would close my eyes and hear the RENT OBC play in my head. He sounds truly phenomenal. I also liked Olivia, her vocals are great and I can tell she has a great personality. I don't think I was too fond of her acting. There were moments that just fell kind of flat for me, surprisingly even in her solos. I do give her kudos because she is almost always on stage, and if not it was for a costume change.

What stopped me from ever really considering Pretty Woman was the set. From what I've seen in trailers it just looked so bare and cheap. But after watching it live, it actually didn't bother me at all. There was actually more to it than the trailers made it seem with all their close-ups. Obviously, can't tell how it compares to Broadway and what was changed.

Overall, it was fun. Again, the cast was what truly made it. I think if this show went non-eq, it would feel cheap really fast. But this was my second show since the pandemic, so it was nice to see the magic of theater shine again.

Well, at least they got to see the world premiere back in early 2018 before it got eviscerated by Broadway critics.

I had the pleasure of catching the matinee of the PRETTY WOMAN tour today. I will preface this post by saying that I am one of the very few people who actually really enjoyed this on Broadway. I think the show is just FUN, and the score is super catchy and has some great tunes. That being said, it was no surprise that I enjoyed the tour immensely.

Both Olivia Valli and Adam Pascal were out, but Alexa Xiofaridou Moster and Christian Douglas were both terrific as Vivian and Edward, respectively. Moster did a lot of riffing which was fun to hear. Christian Douglas's voice was like butter - no rasp like Andy Karl and Andy Karl both had in the roles. Kyle Taylor Parker. What can one say. This man is SO insanely talented. I LOVED him as Lola in Kinky Boots, and he is so great here as well.

The physical production is very similar to the Broadway production (which was pretty bare bones to begin with), minus the automation. The ensemble moved pieces on and off and some pieces were flown in and out. The passerelle and elevator have, obviously, been cut. I was surprised to see they cut the bathtub set piece, but I wouldn't have noticed its absence had I not seen the show on Broadway.

All in all, a very fun afternoon in the theatre. Yes, the show is dated and doesn't really hold up that well from a Me Too movement point of view, but I still think it's just a blast, and I'm glad I got to see the tour!

Broadway Across Canada announced today that it will be Adam and Jessie for the Canadian stops, so I assume Adam is closing out the tour.
