Andy Mietnus joins Wicked tour..

It's not like this is the bus & truck company of Wicked. Good for him!

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Unless the requirements have changed, Andy isn't tall enough to be Boq. Wicked has/had height requirements for Boq and Fiyero. Fiyero needs to be 5'11" or taller, whereas Boq can't be over 5'7".

^ Wasn't Norbert Leo Butz (original Fiyero) shorter than that? I wonder when they settled on the height requirements.

Norbert himself has joked about that. He's only around 5'7. He was also the only Fiyero that was wigged.

"

I think you mean he isn't tall enough to be Fiyero.

5'10" and taller is the height requirement for Fiyero. 5'7" and shorter for Boq.

He's not a Fiyero type.

Most actors just want to be working actors. No step down involved.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

At around 5'8, he's too short to be Fiyero and too tall to be Boq, based on the casting office's breakdown. And frankly, as a 5'3 actor who can rarely even get *seen* for Wicked, this is a slap on the face. That said, I'm a fan and am sure he'll be great.

Are you implying he has the voice to sing Boq? Because...

They/them. "Get up the nerve to be all you deserve to be."

This really surprised me. Were he cast as a Boq replacement on Broadway, I'd still be quite shocked. That it's the touring production is stunning but as others have said, work is work.

Yes, because we've all heard about the countless actors who have shredded their vocal chords singing Fiyero, or as I call it, the male Evita. Gimme a break.

Hahahah. I was by no means suggesting it was a hard role to sing. Rather, I was suggesting that he doesn't have a very good voice.

This is going into the territory of unsolicited gossip, but wonder if he took the tour simply to have something to do while Michael Arden's busy with Merrily.

Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

I'm always amazed by comments that presume any kind of work for a Broadway actor is stepping down from what they've done before. While to you as a fan, Andy Mientus may be a 'star' of some kind, but the truth is he's just a working actor. The life of a working Broadway actor is not a glamorous one. You don't make the kind of money from a single gig to retire, or take years off until the next great role comes along. There are plenty of stories about actors who have been nominated for Tony Awards only to have to get sales jobs in retail stores the next season. The tour of WICKED is a production contract which is as good as it gets for musical theatre. Good for him!
