Is it possible to say that Mr. Barbour might have done a bad thing, without saying that what he did was equivalent to the seduction of a 11 year old girl? (assuming that he's guilty of anything...) The inability to discuss something like this in a rational manner is amazing to me.

dude, you're preaching to the choir. i mean who hasn't looked at an 11 or 12 or 13 year old and thought, damn, i totally wanna hit that. i mean c'mon, even jon benet was smoooookin', dude! i mean, doing a little kid isn't the worst thing in the world, right? c'mon, she's gonna have sex eventually anyway, right? you've seen the way some of those girls dress and look at stud broadway stars like james. seriously, how much was he supposed to take? i blame the parents and the girl, i mean you know she wanted it. poor james really had no chance against her wily teen love goddess ways.

What a poorly-written article. Geez. Anyway, whether some, all, or none of what the girl says is true, Barbour will probably be acquited due to lack of evidence. It's really her word against his. Besides, the fact that she's a now an adult and trying make a career in the theater says to me that her late accusation may be about more than just legal justice.

There is just something far-fetched about the entire accusation, it's timing and the fact the accuser wants to be an actress. Certainly, if this is a "habit" of his, then we would have heard rumblings about this type of behavior before.

I might be wrong ,and If I am I am sorry, but I think there were
"Rumblings" about this type of behavior before this story broke in April. Something about Florida or something. But, like I said, I could be wrong.

papa - Whether or not I got the context right has nothing to do with it. You are disgusting. Child molestation is just not funny, you should really watch what you say, you might get confused with an actual sexual predator. Even if it was a joke, it wasn't funny enough. Keep trying.

If you had seen this post, you would have understood (or maybe not) that he was using sarcasm and shocking language to disprove that posters point. You need to relax. No one is condoning or promoting child pornography. In fact, from papa's post, I can tell he's strongly opposed to it.

What he did was illegal and should be punished i dont doubt that.

But her "courage" ... she freaking pursued it just as much as he did. if it was JUSt the dressing room i'd back her up.

But dang ... i am sure she went after him as well ... the only difference is he should have KNOWN better...

Whether the article is well written or not, whether the accusations are true or not - the fact remains - this story made the NY Post AND I heard it on 1010WINS (the NY area 'all news' station) this morning. I wouldn't think this is the best 'publicity' one could want..........JMO

You do realize there are TONS of sexually active 15 year olds right?? Some who have had quite a few partners.

Again ... even at 15 ... i think she knew what was happening going back to his place. I was on her side till i read that part. Stil think the guy should serve some time .... just not sure on her "courageous" part.

NEW YORK -- A prominent Broadway actor, known for playing the beast in Disney's family-friendly "Beauty and the Beast," pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he had sexual contact several times with a 15-year-old girl -- including once in his dressing room.

James Barbour, 40, was charged with five counts of criminal sex acts and sexual abuse against the teen back in 2001. She came forward earlier this year before the five-year statute of limitations expired.

Assistant District Attorney Maxine Rosenthal, speaking at the hearing, said prosecutors were aware of a second case where Barbour allegedly had sexual contact with another underage girl, in California. Defense attorney David Smith said there was nothing new about any of the charges.

"These are the very same allegations he was aware of several months ago," said Smith. "... We were aware of the second allegation as well. That occurred over seven years ago."

According to prosecutors, Barbour was starring in the musical "Jane Eyre" in 2001 when the girl's high school drama teacher arranged for the girl and her parents to see the show. The girl came backstage by herself after the show, and the actor began sexually touching her, prosecutors said.

There was allegedly another incident with the same girl during a dinner at an Eighth Avenue restaurant, and a third in his apartment on the Upper West Side, authorities said.

Kasim, even if she was naked, throwing herself at him, it should not change this situation. She was a 15 year old girl. No one should take advantage of that. The psychological implications of such acts are so scarring... she may have even WANTED to participate at the time, but that doesn't make it right, or less bad. He should not have engaged at all... her willing participation doesn't change any part of that.

Re read what i wrote ... i am not arguing the legality or the morality of what happened. I totally agree that he shouldnt have done anything. And from the read he DEFINETLY started it with the come to my dressing room alone.

The only thing i was arguing was her "courage" to come out after all this time. maybe she wised up and wanted people to realize that he went after others. But i just dont think much of her even at 15 thinking going to a 40 year old guys house alone after what happened was anywhere near right.

Sodomy laws vary from state to state, but I think sodomy with a minor is always illegal.
