Papa, I didn't specify what type of lessons. I have a couple of books that could be read and be made into hand outs. Have you ever seen Monty Python & The Meaning of Life? That type of lesson could work as well.

it's not an embarrassment to the broadway community. that's patent bullsh*t, pb. it's not an embarrassment for him, it's a crime he is accused of committing. it's not an embarrassment to her, it is an alleged crime that was committed against her. those who would like this issue to go away "for the good of the community" are the kind of people who enable this sort of behavior. the only people who are embarrassed by this are those other than the girls in question who knew and did nothing, and their embarrassment should more properly be seen as complicity. those who did nothing allowed these girls to be abused, just as surely as a mother who closes the door and turns up the music so they can ignore the cries of their child suffering at the hands of a relative. those who want this to go away may very well want to keep a light from shining on them and forcing them to admit what they knew and when they knew it.

I doubt this will have any impact on backstage visits for theatre students. Any actor in his or her right mind would already know not to take minors to their dressing rooms unescorted. That's common sense. Also, nowadays shows generally do 'talk-backs' which are much easier ways for kids to talk to the actors.

In general I would agree with you, but waiting 5 years after the fact (and prior to the statute of limitations expiration date), combined with her career aspirations and the fact he lives out of state, makes it extremely suspicious.

I disagree. In some cases of sexual abuse and rape, victims wait 5, 10...even 20 years before coming forward. Some never speak out about the abuse at all. Just because it happened several years ago doesn't mean it's a false allegation.

Also, to answer the allegation of the girl "coming back for more." This is quite common. Abusers and rapists often have a psychological hold over their victims. They may make them feel as though the abuse is "right", or capitalize on any feelings of attachment.

This girl has everything to lose, and nothing to gain here. Nobody fabricates a sexual abuse charge to further their career. Do you really think anyone's going to use "hey, I was abused and put a Broadway actor in jail!" to get themselves hired?!

Finally, no matter what happened, the onus was on the adult in the situation to do the right thing. Even if the girl threw herself at him, he was the adult, he was the one with the mature judgment, and it was up to him to step back.

Papa, yes this is an embarrasment to the entire Broadway community as well as everyone involved when this sort of thing happens. Everyone!

And when major papers are permitted to slant their stories with incriminating reports laced with hearsay with a case that has yet to be tried, that's as low as you can get also. The reporting has been unprofessional and has taken the opportuinty to take a few cheap shots aimed at this industry.

Yes, sex with minors is a crime and those found guilty will be prosecuted. No arguement there and no covering it up. And no need to highlight the reality and gravity of this with me.

But if you think people who work in this industry are not embarassed or affected by all of this, know that they are. These sort of things have a ripple affect on everyone, every time it happen whether it is hidden or exposed. That's all I'm saying.

The guilty will be punished and rightfully so.

I surely didn't say that this incident is a reflection of this industry. Broadway is a small community and this sort of thing affect others within its members, particularily among those who work with or know individuals and fellow members. That's the commuinty I am referring to. It's unfortuante, embarassing, creates an array of emotions...call it what you will. It's very sad. That's it!

Shows will go on with the public never knowing about this. But not before a few media sources have a field day with this. And that's sad too. Folks that's just my take on this.

The funny thing is, as I was reading this thread, my first thought was "what a shame he's not gay, that would have ended the entire thing as soon as she made an accusation" (because I'm not convinvced anything actually happened. Short of bodily fluid samples or a videotape, it's his word against hers and she waited so long that a good lawyer will probably be able to prove reasonable doubt) and then I started to wonder if there wasn't some snickering in the press that a straight man (apparently) is performing on Broadway and that's why it even made the papers. Talk about homophobic, but subtle.

Isn't the identity of the victim protected in these types of cases regardless of age? If I remember correctly, the woman who accused Kobe Bryant of rape kept her identity a secret until someone leaked it to the press -- and I assume that she was over 18. Of course, I have no real knowledge in legal matters so I could be way off base here.
