No problem!! You can always rely on the BARE family, but if we don't know, www.thebarees.com has a message board and there are always lyric threads there.
We are family...la la la la. It seems the Barees site has kinda died a little over the last few weeks. There needs to be more on the site than people submitting the same old icons 100 times to get points and the same old trivia question (the answer is WINE dagnabit!) up for weeks at a time.
There are some people in the world who say that writing stories, or composing music or dancing sparkly dances is easy for them. Nothing interferes with their ability to create. While I celebrate their creative freedom, a little part of me just wants to punch those motherf*ckers in the teeth...[tos]
I couldn't agree more AG. Mr. Arden has done so many things in his short career, and I'd love to see an interview with him up there. I'm sure once the production begins again and we can all hem and haw about how many times we've seen it and everything, it'll probably pick up on there. We'll see :)

Yeah, the Barees site is quite dead. Actually, the bulletin board there is only moderately satisfying (especially since I only have, like, 1500 points!). I like this thread much better. We get info here faster, too.
About Rent vs. Bare: yeah, I don't like many of the comparisons either. Musically, they're similar, but that's because both their scores are influenced by contemporary rock/pop, and they're both sung-through. And both shows are aimed at a younger audience. But otherwise, they're pretty different.
One comparison I do like is when I overhead someone say that Bare was like experiencing Rent for the first time, when it was off-Broadway with its original cast - that same energy, intimacy and verve.

I havent seen the show and I wouldnt really compare it to RENT even though there are similar aspects musically. But I agree with MARE that one like "Ill drink to that" always reminded me of RENT bc Roger says it at one point in the show, I think in "Happy New Year", right?
I only compared one thing to rent... and that was the theatre space. ATA is a space that rent would fit perfectly in. as far as the show itself, i find no real comparison other than they are both nearly sung through, pop-scored shows.
just a thought on teh staging of 'queen mab'. sergio and kristin should be commended for the intricacy of the staging during the sequence... they manage to symbolize and squeeze a 'nutshell' version of the story into those few moment.... everyone wearing masks, jason being pulled in every different dirrection by everyone around him (via the BLACK cloths), peter standing steady at his side and unsheathin a sword handed over to matt and matt using it to slit his throat as ivy swoops in... and nadia with the mirror....
also, during 'no voice', it gets me everytime when nadia says that she always knew jason was gay and that she was just waiting to have the talk.... it really changes your perspective on the interaction between the two of them that you have seen through the whole show.
2day is VERY VERY cute yes, but I must admit a fondness for whatdoineed.... **ducks**
ugh so I got a BARE window card from Barees and it came today. It's signed by John Hill, Jenna Leigh Green, Natalie Joy Johnson, The Adamness, Aaron Lohr, and Scott Allgauer! I love the people that signed it--So cool and awesome that its free but NO MICHAEL!!!!! That is like a crime...
Thanks for that lyric! I always thought it was "stolen dare"...which doesn't make too much sense! Ahh!!! I cannot WAIT to see it so I can hear all the other songs and see the staging!!!!! Only a couple more months...

No Michael? WTF? I was going to order one but now maybe I won't if there's no Michael signature!

Heheheh....when I went to see Bare in May, Michael signed my program.
Not to make you feel jealous or anything....

Most of you have probably read this already, but to further make this the official BARE thread , I've decided to post it here too.
It answers 2day's question about rush tickets (and I always remember to respond to cute boys like 2day ). This was posted on the Barees site by "ILovePeter" (and don't we all!):
I have found out some interesting things from a great and reliable (and talkative) source that I must keep anon...but thank you - you know who you are.
(1) The producers are apparently keeping the FIRST FOUR ROWS of the performances in the new space open for last minute ticket buying and/or for rush fans. THIS is AWESOME.
(2) There are FOUR new people coming to the BARE CAST: Sister Chantelle, Tanya, Alan and a new Female Swing.
(3) The band begins recording the album next week with the cast to follow "very shortly thereafter"
I could not find out anymore about changes except that "they are definately for more than just Peter and Jason's story" - - - which I am guessing was a refernce to the Michael Arden article recently posted.
I will reveal my source after the show opens!! Bwahahahahaahahaha. Thought everyone would wanna know...makes me more excited.
-M
I have my suspicions about who the "source" is.

I'm seriously thinking they read the boards! For all we know, one of us could be a cast member. *Squints eyes and looks around in paranoia*
The album (if true) is the best piece of news we've received yet! Imagine, the original cast's vocal performance, preserved forever! And they are going into the recording studio so soon, too! I guess the score isn't changing then - which is fine by me (although an extra love ballad between Peter and Jason would have been nice).

You remind me of someone 2day4u, I can't put my finger on the why, but I'd like to try...
But...I love that they're gonna have a recording, so amazing. If they're reading, hello to all the BARE Cast, you're all amazing, and Michael Arden, you are an inspiration

Is it just me, or does one of Ivy's solos has to go? I don't know which one - they're all pretty, but also pretty superfluous. Any suggestions?

UGH AGREED!!! If anything, "Portrait of a Girl" or "Touch My Soul"
From the sampler, "Portrait of a Girl" sounds weaker, but "Touch My Soul" is irrelevant. POAG includes Matt, which is great, and TMS is her love confession to Jason....tough choice.
Portrait of a Girl can go, IMO. It just seems to be Ivy prancing around on stage with the drawing of her costume. The lyrics are clever in their own way, but I'm just not sure it's essential to the story or to get a feel for the character.
Actually, Ivy on the whole might be a slightly problematic character. On the one hand, she's three dimensional, on the other, the only reason we know that is what happens in Act II. Otherwise, she can be a bit of a cardboard cutout, which sort of makes it seem like whatever heart she displays is just as result of a reaction to her circumstances and not necessarily because deep down inside she's really just a nice, misunderstood girl as Portrait of a Girl attempts to paint her.
"Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run" - Jeff Buckley
That's what I was thinking. I've always found it strange that Ivy - who is really a supporting character, albeit she gets entangled in a lot of plot threads - gets 3 (!!!) solos, while Peter only gets 1, and Jason none at all. (Not to mention the many duets and featured vocal parts Ivy has, too.)
The original LA production didn't have "Portrait of a Girl," I believe. I think the song adds something, but not much of something. They should consider turning it into a pas-a-deux duet, and give poor Matt his own part in the song too, rather than just backup.

I'm reviving our thread after two hours of inactivity!
Ivy adds something to the story, whether it is positive or negative...I don't know why they put her there...more love triangle things? (though it ends up a long hexagon...) She doesn't really have any other purpose but to add to the problems of the other characters...her journey isn't fully presented...though she does go from bitch to less of a bitch.
And just to add to the love of this thread
Michael Arden=most swoon worthy person ever bythesword saw him on 8th avenue today!!!

That's so true! Ivy only functions as a catalyst for conflict. She doesn't really have any other purpose; everything else is just filler, isn't it? I hope they make her a more interesting character when the show reopens.
bythesword saw him on 8th avenue today!!!
Oh. My. God. What was he doing? (Walking, most likely, but I want details!)
By the way, this is the 750th post! YAY us!
