bythesword said she screamed "hey that's Michael Arden!" and said he just gave her a weird face lol...sort of harsh from Mikey I still love him anyway!
I want to see if they rework the characters...the Nadia/Matt crush?? That was always a "side note" that was sort of underdeveloped.
I'm sure Michael was just freaked out by a stranger screaming out his name on the streets of New York City. I've met him briefly, and he couldn't be more friendly and cordial.
Okay, we've past 750 - I'm going to bed.

I didn't pick up on the crush either, but then my mind was a little bit preoccupied by Peter/Jason!
I feel like Ivy's two solos are the weakest in the show (minus All Grown Up which is stirring and necessary, IMO). Portrait of a Girl for the aforementioned reason of it just feeling like la la la I'm not really just a bitch and Touch My Soul because she's just so earnest about, well, Jason touching her soul. I realize she's a teenager and I'm looking at this from a um, no longer a teenager perspective, but she sleeps with him, he doesn't call and tries to run from her in the hallway, when/where did the touching of the soul happen? How was this one night any different from the rest of her apparent quickie relationships?
The good part of the song though is Ivy asking if Jason has ever felt that way, and his dawning realization that he has, for real, with Jason and not just in a pretty words kind of way.
I almost think Ivy would be a better thought out character if they kept the interaction between Jason/Ivy at a shallow level instead of attempting to make us think Ivy really believes she's in love with Jason. At least then she wouldn't be all over the map in Act II.
All of this being said, they could still never change a word and I'd still be totally rapt in attention and emotionally beat by the end of the show. And would do it all over again, apparently to torture myself.

As far as the crush, I picked up on it.. mostly due to Natalie's prtrayal rather than any lyrics.... I also feel that part of her hate for Ivy comes from the fact that she wants Matt and Matt wants Ivy.
I think the 'love' Ivy has works for the simple fact that during high school years, that can often happen.. they think they love someone after sleeping with them.. I've seen it happen.
Portait of a girl isn't the best song, but it does go to showing Matt's affection for Ivy and her not noticing him at all....
I agree. Its a toss up between "Touch my soul" and "Portrait of a Girl". I really agree that its strange that Ivy has three songs and Peter has one and Jason has none!
It'll be interesting to see if they give more to Jason, maybe a song showing his struggle between his love of Peter and playing the straight guy. I have an idea maybe like "Two Worlds" focusing on the two roles he play or lives in the two different worlds. That came out of nowhere, but it makes sense.

OK, kids! It's story time! Wanted to share soemthing that happened tonight. So my bestest friend and I were playing some stupid who can outdo the other game on AIM last night, and somehow I won. So, she's like ur gonna get a prize when I see you tomorrow, but I dont know what yet. So, I pick her up tonight, and she hands me something. I unwrap it, and I find a framed picture of none other than Mr. Arden in that schoolboy uniform!!!!!!! YAY for friends that give great gifts that make ur night! Ok, I'm done now.
No no, it's much more than that. We're talking exponents, people!

I completely agree, Trisky: when did the soul-touching come in? I don't quite buy the "it's high school" justification; we've used it a lot for this show, and I think it's time to draw the line here. (Still love the show, though ).
Jason definitely needs a moment for himself (aside from "Cross"). As discussed earlier in the thread, the audience never gets into Jason's head. His characterizationis completely made up of how the other characters see him. Of course, this could be intentional (he has no identity of his own, he must reflect what others think of him instead), but if so, it's too vague to be effective.
Similarly, "Portrait of a Girl" is too ambiguous a song. I actually like the melody a lot, and I think it's a much better song than "Touch My Soul", which I don't like much. But "Portrait"'s lyrics don't say much; the song only implies that everyone sees Ivy as a perfect girl. But what else? Are we to gather that she's putting on an act? That she's unhappy? We find this out later anyway, so the song is rather useless. It presents an idea, but doesn't fully follow through. I still say to buff up the song's purpose, they should focus on Matt as well.

It's now 12:01am on Saturday, July 31st. It's also my BIRTHDAY! Yay me! "I am 22, and I live on Avenue Q!"
(Sorry, I haven't celebrated my birthday in years, but this year I'm goin' all out! Well, kinda....I'm going out for drinks.)
In other news, the second BARE concert should be done by now - any news, reviews, pictures?

Thank you! I feel old now, though. I'm now officially past the age of being courted by sugar daddies.

Just got back from the second Bare concert. Unfortunately I think MadeofGold may be indisposed at the moment becoming intimately equated with the porcelain gods. There was a lot of alcohol consumption tonight.
The show was fantastic (roughly the same songs, with five songs added, I believe, one for Kaitlyn, one for Jim Price and one for Lindsay Scott, one for Aaron as well and one taken away, Michael doing the Jason Mraz song - besides Adam's numbers, obviously because he couldn't make it). I had an even better time this go round. Everyone from the cast sang, literally, except Adam who was not there and those no longer in the cast.
The after party was a blast and Natalie Joy Johnson is my new girl crush!
If no one else posts details, will try and post some more tomorrow. It's Bareapoolooza this weekend. Tomorrow is Michael's show It's Only Life.
Life is sweet.

Coincidentally, Avenue Q (my favourite new musical) and I share the same birthday. Go us!

AHHH. i go into the hospital for a coupla days and i miss all the 'bare' goodness, including the dang concert! (MadeofGold, trisky, i hope you had a fantabulous time, and Made, hon, go easy next time!) I'm glad to hear that Lindsay Scott was there this go-around. I was wondering if she was going to be back in the cast. She really is the sweetest thing!
happy birthday Blue! I hope you have a great day!
Anywho, I'm going to go listen to some 'bare'. Surprise, surprise.
There are some people in the world who say that writing stories, or composing music or dancing sparkly dances is easy for them. Nothing interferes with their ability to create. While I celebrate their creative freedom, a little part of me just wants to punch those motherf*ckers in the teeth...[tos]
starlyricist, you might be able to catch "It's Only Life"! I heard Michael is very good in it (was there any doubt?). But I heard it's a pretty hot ticket.
