When this was originally announced for fall of 2020 and we thought theater might come back, as much as I wanted to see it for the incredible people attached, I was mentally drained with everything happening at the time and decided not to see it. Well, now that time has passed and there has been time to kind of let everything seep in and re-focus, I purchased a ticket to see it the second week of previews. Really glad I did because I have never seen Lillias onstage and I love, know and like to see and support Brandon and Tamika. Plus Bill T Jones choreographing. I am now really looking forward to this. This will only be my second New Group Production. I saw "Mercury Fur" and loved it.
this show is so bewildering to me because of the source material, interestingly they are really hiding the fact it is based on a book by George S Schuyler who amongst many awful things he did was condemn Marin Luther King Jr and wrote a really gross article when he won the Nobel Peace Prize (the outlet he was working for at the time refused to publish it), was against the Civil Rights Act, wrote for a publication for the John Birch Society, was against dismanteling apartheid in South Africa

none of the web advertising features his name or "based on the novel by...."

Ah yes, random surface facts pulled from George S. Schuyler's Wikipedia page... without bothering to read any source material and reasoning behind it.
Does advertising usually feature that? I’m thinking of Doubtfire, Hamilton, Wicked, Waitress…I don’t think any of their advertising references the source material or it’s creator. The description of the show also seems to be making the distinction that is is inspired by the novel (as opposed to being an adaptation).

not at all the case but regardless it doesn't change the fact that this dude was such a hardcore conservative nut by the time he died no one wanted to go near him
The author credits have quietly changed. It was first announced as:
Music and Lyrics by Tariq Trotter
Book by John Ridley
Now it's being listed as:
Music by Tariq Trotter, Anthony Tidd, James Poyser, and Daryl Waters
Lyrics by Tariq Trotter
Book by John Ridley
Tidd and Poyser are also from THE ROOTS, and Daryl Waters is the show's Music Supervisor/Orchestrator/Arranger (and was one of three composers of BRING IN DA NOISE... along with Zane Mark, who is the MD/Dance Arranger for BLACK NO MORE).
Your order for Black No More on January 18, 2022 at 7:30 PM is cancelled.
If you haven’t been in touch with us regarding your order, you’re receiving this notification as a result of the performance being cancelled by the production. We know this is disappointing and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.
First preview was supposed to be the 11th. Got pushed back to the 14th. Then pushed back to the 18th. Then yesterday got cancelled, and it was pushed to today, and now today got cancelled.
I get that we are in weird Covid times, but this is a LOT of movement.

I would assume weird COVID times is the main reason. Just look at Skeleton Key.
However, we've also seen 3 sudden additions to the composing team, and they replaced 2 featured actors in rehearsals. So it could be a bit of both, and wanting to make sure the show is as solid as possible before a paying audience sees it.
