Not sure how credible it is, as it's not a direct source, but I heard they may be pushing back opening night and cancelling a few previews to make some changes? Any word on this? Seems to me it's a bit too late....

This! I saw the show in Chicago and thought it had a lot of potential. Reading the reactions to the Broadway production have been disappointing. There were so many simple and obvious ways they could have fixed the book without massive overhauls to the score or production. Worst case scenario, Faith Prince gets cut.
Why? Laziness? They confused "anodyne" for "family friendly"? One of the producers preferred the unnecessary subplots to the actual source material?
To me, the most obvious thing that had to change:
When Betty is revealed to the "real world," she's greeted as a major celebrity with the power to influence the entire city. While in the actual real world, most of the people in the audience have a vague familiarity with the IP at best. It would have been hilarious and interesting if Betty comes on strong in the "real world" only to be greeted with indifference and cynicism. That would have given her teenage fan an invested interest in acting as a champion for Betty's positivity, which would have created more narrative drive for Act II.
The missed opportunities are depressing, which is even worse considering the show is supposed to celebrate the power of creativity and ingenuity.
Best case scenario for this show, Jasmine Amy Rogers becomes a massive Broadway star and "Boop!" is an interesting footnote in her bio. Or maybe the show can be retooled after closing to become a regional and licensing hit, ala "Seussical." Or maybe story no longer matters in a Broadway musical and this show will coast on a relatively good score, the incredible lead performance, and a breezy design.

I saw the show last night and had a good time. No denying Jasmine's star quality. Unfortunately it really goes off the rails in the 2nd act. Loved the big group numbers and when ever Betty was front and center.
Would definitely rank this over Smash.
I did enjoy the bit in the opening number where Betty guns down a bunch a Nazi's in a bi-plane 😂

Hilarious that the Nazi bit is deemed by you as a spoiler alert. Buying a ticket is a spoiler alert. I bet the NY Times invents new adjectives for this show.

Should I get a job working for you? You seem so eloquent.

You thought you ate that. You clearly have a lot of time on your hands and I could use an assistant, send your resume over.
Although I'm not sure I'd hire someone with a smooth brain that thought the fairy godmother leaves gifts under your pillow.

Maybe I'll just go into the MHE thread and say it's trash daily as a trial run and see how quickly that would get me banned.
Gosh I had a fun time despite many flaws.
The score is tuneful and the orchestrations and arrangements elevate it. Jerry Mitchell and the cast do Herculean work smoothing over some of the rough edges of the book. Gregg Barnes could win Tony #4. I'm excited for decades of Jasmine Amy Rogers world-domination. I liked Stephen DeRosa's schtick (even his number with Faith worked for me), and Erich Bergen had appropriately sleezy charm.
Are there major “huh???” moments in the book, especially in the second act? Yes. Is David Rockwell's scenic design bad? Yes. Are the projections even worse? Yes. (Are some of those projections A.I.-generated? Because they sure look it.)
But it’s a warm-hearted fish-out-of-water show about a kind person coming to town and making things better. Like ELF and PADDINGTON and BARBIE, it worked for me. It was a nice escape from the real world. As opposed to something like SMASH, which I found deeply cynical and hollow at its core.
I doubt this will last, even if it manages to get some mixed-positive reviews and the fifth Best Musical Tony slot. It’s not adult enough to be for grownups, it’s not juvenile enough to be for kids, and it feels old-fashioned.
Can't wait for the cast album so I can go again during "Why Look Around The Corner."

this show shocked me- its alot fun.
i still do not know why anyone thought to dust the Boop IP folder off the shelf--who is this show for? There were lots of children at the show tonight, but the humor (which is considerable!) is not pitched to them. The feel good progressive message though is so predictable and old, its not really a show for sophisticated NY theater folk. Tourists, maybe? But how many tourists are excited to see Betty Boop? It all makes little sense.
i think the answer must be that someone met Jasmine Amy Rogers and put two and two together? I cant think of any other explanation, and it sure is a good one. She is a pure delight. She sings, she dances, shes hilarious, shes adorable, shes warm and likeable from the jump--shes thrown into the spotlight center stage to open the show and carries us all the way for the next 2.5 hours. I know it will be quite a battle of the Ladies of 44th Street come June, and I still think/hope Audra takes it, but man oh man is Jasmine putting on--no, carrying--a show.
With ample support, I might add, from DeRosa and Erich Bergen especially and some really snappy dialogue here and there, and some of the best choreography i've seen in a while. The color play stuff is impressive too- but overall its just a fun time. Yes it drags when they have to get serious and focus on this 14 yr old thats best friends with her babysistter? Whose mom runs for mayor overnight? Yes its all silly musical stuff and some bumpy moments but the feel-good charm sweeps it all away.
The mezzanine was mostly but not completely full tonight- I noticed this with serious snark when we sat down but when the lights came up I found myself hoping this one pulls through a bit.

It wouldn't. There's a poster who did exactly that and made rebutting every positive comment about MHE their personality. They weren't banned and are still posting.
Well, I gave in and came back to NYC.
I thought BOOP! was a lot of fun. Jasmine is mega-talented, and an absolute joy to watch. She lights up the theater!
Trust me, after the dark Sunset Blvd (which I think I liked-not sure yet lol -still kind of shook), and the disappointing Redwood, this sort of lighthearted show was warranted.
It was silly and stupid and just....lovely fun.

You have contradicted yourself so many times on here that nothing you post about this is at all credible.
I would love the chance to see Miss Faith Prince. She is such a character! I'm eyeing the June 21st 8 p.m. show. I looked and saw a tremendous amount of open seats. The tickets are very affordable for a Broadway show.

Well , no one asked for your analysis of my posts which makes you credibly childish. Boop!
