You have contradictedyourself so many times on here that nothing you post about this is at all credible."
Hard to blame mrshowbiz at this point. They are clearly unstable and you all still engage! Remarkable.

I fear the cult-like buzz for Scherzinger will carry the day, but it really is an interesting dichotomy here-- Audra has the "tougher" role, powering through with grace and sheer force for 2.5 hours, carrying a middling revival on her back to great effect. But Jasmine lifts Boop off the ground and woos us with charm/charisma in a character thats almost the total opposite of Mama Rose.
Which is more worthy of accolades? I dont know but I hope thats the question Tony voters find themselves asking.
oh Mr Showbiz…..Gurl.. what are you on?

Do they consider YOU a friend though? Or do they mumble under their breath when they see you coming?

Ooooh could the female lead in a Jerry Mitchell musical take the trophy from Mama Rose again?!
I'd absolutely die. Great performance in a nit great show. Meryl in Iron Lady Teas.

Sure it could happen.
It won't, of course –– the colossal difference is Hairspray was *the* show of the season, that Gypsy was not as well-received as Audra's, and Marisa got swept up in the love for Hairspray.
The equivalent this year would be someone like Helen Shen benefitting from vote-splitting, but I really don't think that will happen.
It's funny to consider last year vs. this year. Last year, Jasmine probably would have won the Tony due to a weak race. This year, there's a chance she doesn't even get nominated despite being intrinsic to the enjoyment of Boop.

I think it's great that the Tony race is between two women of color and the third dark horse is also a woman of color.

Thanks so much for being engaged

I would be shocked, frankly, if she's not nominated. The performance she's giving is very reminiscent of Sutton's breakout moment in Millie. Whether or not she wins because of who else is eligible in the category remains to be seen, but I think her not being nominated would be a huge snub.
I HOPE Jasmine is nominated and it's the start of a long career. But I think no matter what happens there are going to be some great ladies left out of the Actress race.
I loved Old Friends and it’s a must see. But no way it should be nominated for anything .

I would venture to guess that Idina, Robyn, Bernadette, Lea, and Sutton will be left out. Smash splits up the the material across the "lead" roles too much, Old Friends is essentially a concert, Idina has done far better work than Redwood which was also not received well by just about anyone, and Mattress was AGES ago at this point. I feel like we're likely to get Nicole, Audra, Jasmine, Megan, and Jennifer with a potential 6th slot as we've seen in recent seasons for Helen. Adrienne is a wildcard for me at this point.
Jasmine Amy Rogers for president! #diva #obsessed #chillPeople!
Yes, this. Ignore, disregard.

You manifested it, Ermengarde: “Why Look Around the Corner” is now streaming.
I saw this again tonight and just had the best time, again. Jasmine is such a star.
Flying up next weekend to see it again! I am obsessed with this show.
Bernadette and Lea are technically not above the title for Old friends, right? I hope they just don’t petition to move out of ‘featured’ because I doubt they will get a nomination as Leading.

Boop just dropped the third track from the cast album ("Why Look Around the Corner?"), this one featuring Ainsley Melham Why Look Around the Corner (Spotify)
I saw this last night and honestly am still a little speechless at how great I thought it was. I hope it gets raves tomorrow and that buzz carries it through! I still think it's a bizarre out of touch IP to ever write a show about (which is never going to help marketing), but damned if they didn't make something fabulous. Not just fabulous, but the epitome of happiness and levity that's so desperately needed in America right now.
I don't care about whatever plot points or book inconsistencies some people are complaining about as if this should be overanalyzed like a Chekhov play, it's a splashy, entertaining as hell musical. Every single song was delightful, I loved that there was a genuine mix of laugh out loud (the toupee, some of the inside NYC jokes) and truly poignant (I genuinely teared up at Betty's earnest love and support of Trisha), it's peak Jerry Mitchell dazzle... what's not to love?? And that damn adorable dog - total cherry on top.
And I totally agree with the Sutton/Millie comparisons to Jasmine here. I felt like I was literally watching a star being born. I knew she'd be a great singer and dancer, but was blown away by her acting and characterization - what an it-factor she has!
But the whole cast was excellent. I didn't know Angelica Hale but, like Betty, she won me over in five seconds. I was so thrilled for the extended cheering applause she got after her first song when we were all bowled over by that giant voice coming out of that tiny actress. Leading man - great (and so nice to see a real classic song & dance man), side characters - great (I'll always love Faith Prince), costumes, great. The creativity with the black & white and color, so great.
I'm gushing like a madwoman, but honestly I went in expecting to enjoy it but not LOVE it as much as I did. What an insane season this is – I definitely don't envy the Tony nominating committee. (And now can't see a world where there aren't six Best Musical nominees... and that's not counting the early preview raves for Real Women Have Curves.) How lucky we are!

Wow! We must have been in different theaters or you work for Boneau Bryan-Brown the publicists for the show. sure, it was fluffy fun, but so deeply flawed and dull. Sadly, I have to feign interest tomorrow night to support investor friends. 4x a charm,

Fun, but very flawed. The show is only alive when she is on stage.

A lot of y'all seem to be forgetting that Jinkx Monsoon ("Pirates! The Penzance Musical") is another viable candidate for a Best Actress in a Musical nomination.

Same goes for Natasha Hodgson from Operation Mincemeat. She was nominated for a best actress Olivier.
