Saw it a decade ago at the Ahmanson. Perfectly okay score but it was a script with progressively diminishing returns and not much reason for being. Very bored by end of the night. Let's hope someone gives it an injection of originality and wonder.

I saw this at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles, too. The production looked great, but…being familiar with the real story of the group being portrayed in the piece, I thought the show was fairly hollow.
The true subject matter has so many possibilities!

Indeed. I got to see both in It Shoulda Been You and I was laughing most of the night... and I will admit I still don't get all the big second-half plot twists.
Can't wait to hear what Boggess and Zien do with this material.

Has this show been any good in other iterations?
Unless it gets love letters from the critics, a best-case scenario feels like a run along the lines of Bright Star or It Shoula Been You –– 4 months on Broadway, maybe a non-union tour, and then stock & amateur licensing.

This is for all intents and purposes a pre-Broadway run. Ken Davenport is behind it and has been involved for a few years. So unless it gets eviscerated off-bway, we should assume it's coming to bway.

I agree that, barring some bizarre turn of events, we will see this on Broadway. That said, considering the provenance (producer+director), we will also likely see it back on the curb in fairly short order.

I always thought if this does run on Broadway, it should be at one the subscription houses, like Roundabout...Maybe try another "original" musical...we can forget "The People in the Picture", although I do love Donna Murphy.

I was stage managing in LA in…2013 (? 2014?) when they were working on a production of this. I’m honestly shocked they are still trying to make it happen. It’s been in development for over twenty years. I hope something noteworthy comes of this round…
