In his review of "Gypsy" on Broadway, the Times critic Ben Brantley noted that the star Patti LuPone had gotten her role down so brilliantly that "she had made me eat my hat." Previously, he'd given her a lukewarm review. Indeed, after he saw Patti blow the audience away at the St. James Theatre, Brantley gave her the rave she deserved. The next day she sent him a chocolate cowboy hat in a deluxe hat box, with the note, "I hope you're laughing."
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Oh my God! I love it! Only she can get away with it. I know I'M laughing.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
"You will understand that Bww is a forum that allows Theatre people, Fussy old Queens, and chorus boys of Mama Mia to release their everyday life's frustration by being Snarky, B**chy, and sarcastic."

No, BK, that's you. In nearly every comment you make on this board.
How the hell is her gesture "bitchy"? It was a cute gesture between two people, acknowledging the humor of the whole situation. More than that, it was also probably a way of Ms. LuPone saying thank you.
How is that bitchy? I find it cute, hilarious, down to earth, and did I mention hilarious? The note in particularly makes it NOT bitchy.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Another nice gesture by Ms LuPone -- she sent flowers over to Xanadu after they put the joke about Gypsy in the show (I happened to be at Xanadu that day and the actors were talking about it at the stage door).
"What was the name of that cheese that I like?"
"you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start"
"well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"
They say something like The quest for Xanadu shall end shortly and happliy. and Mary Testa says. Short and happy? Over at Gypsy Patti LuPone's only alienated her first daughter!
Or something like that. There are folks who can give the line verbatim but it's been a while for me.
The line is "Short!? Next door at Gypsy, Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated one of her daughters yet!!!"
