My vote goes for Hairspray's "You Can't Stop the Beat." The energy that builds in that song is just incredible! Some of the clips on You Tube are great... however the clip on the show's official Web site is kind of embarrassing. The actor playing Wilbur looks like he doesn't know what he's doing, the actress playing Velma loses her footing and just looks bored, and the dancing of Ashley Parker Angel (Link) is far from crisp. BUT.. still love this number!

I have to say Rent, it sends a shiver down my spine when i hear "there is no future etc", such a positive way to end the show
Thank Webber for the megamix!
I do have to admit that Mamma Mia! has a great closing sequence. The first time I saw it, an 80ish year old woman was getting down with her bad self in the aisle. That was amazing!

Definitely agree with Rent - I love that it ends with "no day but today"
lol about the 80 year old woman. I'm still not sure how I feel about the Hairspray movie..
The closing in the revival of 110 in the Shade. True genius.

I've only heard it on the OBC, but the Finale to Cabaret just sounds chilling.
oh yes i have to agree with Craig on merrily we roll along as well
I'll add SUNDAY (both act 1 and act 2) from Sunday in the Park with George as well
I agree with Sunday. And perhaps, Children Will Listen, from Into the Woods?
And I will add "Being Alive" from Company.
The Les Mis closing gets me everytime.
I think my favorite closing number would be a toss-up between the Wheels of A Dream reprise and The Ballad of Sweeney Todd
Sweeney Todd. How better to end a classic tragic melodrama than the protagonist slamming a door in the audience's face as the music crescendos?

What happens?
Finale B- Rent
You Can't Stop the Beat- Hairspray
Let the Sunshine In- Hair
One- A Chorus Line
I remembered another!
Despite the Lifetime movie feeling, Baby has a great ending with the birth of Danny and Lizzie's baby. That whole "... and on, and on..." chorus gets me every time.

Hairspray, A Chorus Line, and Rent are obviously staples, but I get chills every time I hear Jersey Boys' last number ("Who Loves You"). Those last three falsetto notes are just incredible.

Parade's made me cry like there was no tomorrow. I've never gotten that reaction from just a cast recording before, so I have to say it, despite the historical inaccuracy in the ending.
I also have to say Passion. The finale is what got me into the show. And Ragtime.
The closing number to Pippin is also a fave

it rains.
I would have said Company, but I thought the closing number meant that the song literally ends the show. There's still that part at the end after Being Alive. But if that counts, I'll add my vote.
