On the page before someone mentions the line "If you're father where alive he sure would be dying of shame" from the musical CHESS. In the show she has always thought that her father had died when the russian's invaded hungary when she was a little girl but the russian finds out that he is still alive and agrees to go back to russia (and leave florence) as a trade for her father's freedom so father and daughter can be reunited. It was done very powerfully......Music Circus should have taken that production on the road.

Hey, this is a fun thread that I found buried in the archives. Let's disinter it! Being Alive-absolutely. Make our Garden Grow-majestic.You'll Never Walk Alone-iconic.The finale of Man of La Mancha can tear me up. Oh, and by the way, don't get all the support for You Can't Stop the Beat. It's enjoyable, but compared to the above, it's VERY lightweight

Great pull, green waver!
"Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story," because, I mean, come on... THE TEARS.

I thought the finale to Hands on a Hardbody ("Keep Your Hands on It"
was one of the best closing numbers in recent memory.

Raise You Up from KINKY BOOTS was very good and what I call "electrifying," and, though there are many who don't care for the show, the finale does what it intends to do: send the audience out the door on a high and believing that just maybe love can conquer hate in our divided world.

I agree with Kinky Boots - I've never left a theater smiling so much!
The Finale in Cabaret is so chilling..... me and my friend were stunned first time we saw it

The reprise of the title song in the recent Color Purple revival had me beaming ear to ear with tears streaming down my face. The vocals and arranging were just flawless.
Though I will probably never love a finale as much as Les Mis... Eponine's harmony in the "take my hand..." part gives me chills every time, then ending with the epic "Do You Hear the People Sing" reprise... yes, please.

Matilda the Musical - "When I Grow Up/Naughty [Reprise]"
"Michael Riedel...The Perez Hilton of the New York Theatre scene"
- Craig Hepworth, What's On Stage

My favorites have to be Revolting Children from Matilda since its so fun and everyone is always so in awe of those kids up on stage giving it 200%. I personally consider that the closing number since When I Grow Up/Naughty Reprise is technically the curtain call. I also love Flying Away from Fun Home. It's so beautiful and makes me and most of the audience sob. Then I love You Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray and then Find My Way/Finale from Legally Blonde. Both are just really upbeat, infectiously happy songs that I think perfectly capture the overall tone of both shows and close them really well.

Wow. Can't believe a post I started YEARS AGO has been revived! Haha. I stand by YCSTB, but right behind it in tone and spirit is the finale from its 'sister show' (Kinky Boots), Raise You Up/Just Be! Thank you, Cyndi for the gift of pure joy.
