I hate telecharges website. Why can't they just show me the dates that have 79 buck tickets.

They definitely are. For whatever reason, they've only released a certain number of seats online (both their full site and on mobile). Same can be said for GLASS MENAGERIE coming in. I don't understand it, I don't like it, but it's whatever. I'm waiting it out personally.

I don't understand it either. The only thing I can think of is that by dribbling tickets out you prevent ticket scalpers from gobbling them up all at once.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I think this initial offering was just to test demand. I think they will inevitably raise the ticket prices, and you will suddenly see some of these withheld seats released and offered then.

And to assess demand to keep raising the price until it levels off...

The best you can do is see only $79-$99 seats...

When I saw Ms. Midler at Radio City Music Hall, I guess it was like ten years ago, (Probably more..wow)...anyway...she stopped and chatted after the show with the fans at the stage door and signed many autographs.   Everyone commented how she was so  nice and gracious.

So, I'd say there's a good chance she would do it again, if she hasn't changed much from more than ten years ago (wow.)

Yeah it's just annoying to have to keep clicking on show me more seats for this date, it defeats the purpose of even having a virtual seating chart. Just show all the seats that they want to sell and let me pick them.

Can I ask if there's a discount code out there for the $79 and $99 seats? I'd imagine they'd be in the balcony? Or back of mezz? Cant seem to find them on Telecharge. Thanks.

Nope. As they seem to be selling out (so far) at face value, no reason.

Ticketmaster is even worse, though, since they don't let you do anything across multiple dates. So, you've hit the one area where Telecharge is actually better... even if they won't let you only see $79 tix.

It makes perfect sense.

By releasing only some of the tickets, you have created the illusion that the show is sold out or hard to get into and thus have created scarcity.

Scarcity means the value of the tickets will increase, which means people will pay more to get them if more become available. And now the production has a store of tickets that can be made available at a higher price.

I'm a little too tired to dig through this thread for my answer- but I'm about to buy tickets. Is Bette scheduled to perform all shows, or is she only doing 5 or something?

She is scheduled to perform at all of the shows currently on sale.

@Kad - That certainly makes sense. What is more up for debate in my opinion is whether that's ethical. To me that practice is pretty shady and manipulative, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's anything the consumers can do about it, and most people will fall into it and end up paying the jacked-up prices. It's definitely understandable why a company would do such a thing, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's right or good.

Haha, fair enough, Kad. But just because it's a facet of capitalism doesn't mean we have to like it, or fight for change. To me at least this sounds like something where regulation would be welcomed, to customers at least.

It is regulated. If people don't like it, they don't buy tickets. If you buy a ticket today, the odds of it costing less closer to the show date seem miniscule right now. So, these are essentially this year's $179 Hamilton tickets people will be congratulating themselves for buying next spring.

Why? Broadway tickets are a luxury item.

Nothing shady about it. It's "commercial theatre" -- I'm always amazed when people on this board feel they are entitled to the best seats at the lowest prices. In this case, they have made plenty of excellent seats available at (by Broadway standards at least) reasonable prices. If you want them buy early, or wait and pay more because demand has warranted an increase in prices.

Your arguments make some sense, but I still feel there's a difference between raising the price due to actual scarcity, and withholding them and creating, as you outright admitted, is the "illusion" of scarcity. That's manipulation. That's lying to the customer to trick them into paying more. That's just my opinion of course, and I respect all of your opinions to stand by it. And it's not like there's much I can do about it other than, like you said buy the tickets as early as possible (as I did). But that doesn't mean I can't find some of that unethical, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with me, as you are free to do so.

I might have mentioned this before so please indulge, but in Australia we have very few ways of buying a ticket.

At the box office, phone ticketex or ticket master-nothing else[as far as I know]-rarely have 1/2 ticks. I THINK that only at the BO there is no extra charge. You either front up there or phone/email up-choose your ticket from the plan-pay and go.

It really is very simple. There is no opportuniyt/forum to ask where is best/etc etc--your decision/your choice/your price affordability--and of course, when.

Any other Aussies want to add to or inform me otherwise.

Thanks..SweetLips.x

What does this mean? Half-off?

I don't think anyone is arguing that it isn't materialistic, but you seem to feel that unless all the seats are offered at the initial price point it is unfair in some way. Lots of business (airlines in particular) work under the model of holding back seats and then offering them later at higher prices. This is again commercial theatre. They have a huge cast announced, and everything points to this being a first class production that likely costs 15 million "at least" to produce. There is nothing wrong with producers selling tickets in a way that will better pay back their investors. It's called smart producing!
