Not that I want any shows to close, but most (if not all) of these shows are receiving a holiday-season bump through the New Year.

Thus, I'm afraid KPOP, Hadestown, and maybe Almost Famous will all shutter by mid-January. Kimberly Akimbo is up in the air — I'm not counting it out yet because they have 1) a savvy lead producer in David Stone willing to keep this thing open as long as possible, and 2) incredibly strong reviews from last Thursday plus very early awards season buzz. Their numbers could indicate the start of a rebound to last well past New Year's Day... or it could just be the aforementioned holiday-season bump with tix sales plummeting in January.

choose your fighter:

- KPop, $37 average ticket price with polarizing reviews and a rumor that it will close by December, reasonable capacity, but word of mouth treats it as entertainment because of how terrible the book is

- A Christmas Carol, $21 ticket price but best capacity out of the bottom 3, has promising reviews but people keep leaving in the middle of the show… One man show

- Ain’t No Mo, $27 ticket price, papered into oblivion, but it’s a limited run, hilarious (a bit too new for reviews), and things could improve once positive or otherwise word of mouth begins to spread.

Can’t imagine how the investors for these three are feeling right now, especially because i really liked ain’t no mo. Hope things look up for these shows

Re A Beautiful Noise, unless it has changed since Boston, it will run down its advance and slowly die, just like some of the other juke-box musicals. It is a thoroughly mediocre show.

Multiple people have referred to A Beautiful Noise as a “sleeper hit” but I don’t think that’s the correct term.

A sleeper hit would be something like Kimberly Akimbo starting out like it has and then by Tony time having doubled it’s grosses (and by god I would LOVE it if this happened).

Shows like A Beautiful Noise and &Juliet have had fantastic grosses right out the gate. Ain’t nothing sleepy about it.

Neil Diamond is dong great.

I forgot what a huge superstar he is.

What's going on with Some Like It Hot? I assumed the title alone would make the show a hit.

Is that because of Marathon overflow? I was expecting KA to be pulling in a bigger weekly. Maybe next week will show a bigger increase ofr that show specifically considering the raves. A Beautiful Noise has been the sleeper musical of the season. Literally no-one talking about it and yet it pulled in over $1M. Wow!"

KA is slowly going up but keep in mind the opening on 11-10, those are all comped tickets for the most part.

The producers need to be prepared to ride out the leanest months until the nominations and even those don't guarantee dollars. The market is very tricky right now, as far as building any kind of advance. Almost every show is victim to day-of or week of sales with very few people purchasing tickets months in advance. It's near impossible to figure out a shows trajectory because of this.

A Beautiful Noise may not be an amazing show, but despite what some asserted here when the show was announced, Diamond has a huge fan base. I imagine it will be do pretty well for awhile.

A Beautiful Noise has a 30% code that is every limited in its usage. Essentially invalid most of December.

Sutton Ross said: "Yep, hopefully it will shut them up, especially if they didn't see the show. Good bump for several shows as the holidays arrive including Almost Famous which has gone up steadily in the past few weeks despite many posters wanting it to close. Whoops!"

If people don't want to face the reality of what the seating charts are showing thats on you Kimberly is not going to survive on day of walk up sales and having advance sales a few weeks out at a time and is not scaling at the rate it needs to, the average ticket price is $84 even if the capacity is 100% that is 100% of people paying a third of what the top ticket price is on average, with a comped opening night they sold just over 80% of their seats last week and you could even buy tickets for opening night up until an hour before the show. This show has also yet to hit its nut once (which for the record is $500,000 believe it or not)


The week of Christmas the mezzanine is barely sold, this is one of the best weeks of the year and there are more unsold seats then sold, that is a fact and a reality, regardless of reviews, and peoples love for it (myself included) this show has a huge uphill battle to make it to the TONYs and Jesse Green's review even said as much

And because people think I have some axe to grand against it let me be clear this is an across the board issue, there is too much supply and not enough demand and potentially a dozen shows are going to post early notices in the next few weeks because the audiences are not there, I mean yes its only three performances but Ohio State Murders is playing to 50% with Audra McDonald? A production of A Christmas Carol which should be a easy sell has a average price of $21? Take Me Out which just won Best Play not even six months ago is playing to half empty houses?

People can fool themselves all they want but Broadway is in a bad state
