But A Doll House, Part 2 was an open run, correct. Choir Boy has a closing date of February 17th so every week counts even more."
I could be wrong, but I think A Doll’s House, Part 2 was initially a limited engagement, that then extended (with the grosses falling off as the opening cast left). But anyway, hopefully the critics responses for Choir Boy will match the acclaim it has received here, and the grosses will increase accordingly.

My two cents, which is about what my opinion is worth... I think attendance for Band's Visit was hurt when Tony Shalhoub left. They could no longer advertise him and he was a big draw to the little show.

That is correct."
MTC is a non-profit, subscriber based theater. Shows at the Friedman rarely ever do overwhelming business. Choir Boy will be just fine for their 8-week engagement.

Even more so than Shalhoub leaving was the way the production handled it. They really tried to keep people in the dark as to if and when he would be back, and I’m sure a lot of people felt burned when his “return” was for a mere handful of performances to allow any remaining Tony voters to see him who did not catch the show before he left.
sorry but I think you can count the number of people that have their theatre-going affected by how an actor leaving is handled on one set of hands. And the number of people even aware of it is miniscule.

It kind of came off differently than I intended for it to. My friends that saw it and are regular theatre goers loved it, while my family and friends who don't see much theatre didn't love it. I guess it's not really a show for the casual theatre goer who is looking for fluffy fun.

While The Great Comet will probably forever remain my favourite theatrical experience, I thought TBV was the most beautiful musical I have ever seen I. I sat for 90 minutes with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes at the pure beautiful humanity of it all. It was an amazing experience that I highly doubt will ever be topped. It is an amazing piece of musical theatre.
TBV is by any measure a success. It was a critical darling, it won a staggering 10 Tony awards, and it has already recouped.
I don't think anybody was expecting a show like this to be a massive, long-running hit; the fact it's even on Broadway is win in and of itself. But it certainly has enjoyed an extremely enviable amount of success.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
^ This. And might I point out that many already recouped shows have continued on similar or less box office receipts. So let’s not start the death march just yet...
You can't be serious. The death march for Hamilton was underway here before the usual suspects started heading for Weehauken. And Dear Evan Hansen was on suicide watch before the set was loaded in. We are nothing if not prophets of doom here.
