Very happy that Inheritance and Grand Horizons had higher attendance this week than last week!

I think this is the first time Harry Potter had the lowest average ticket price at $65. Wow. Also as of last week attendance is finally less than 100% (I was always skeptical of Harry Potter's numbers.) I loved the play and really hope it hangs on for at least another year.

Harry Potter also is an autism friendly performance this week. I don’t know how that affects their grosses.

While I too worry about the longevity of Harry Potter, we can chalk a good bit of this drop up to the fact that the TDF Autism Friendly performance was yesterday and was either heavily comped or discounted.

oh ok i didn't know about the TDF Autism Friendly performance. I've been to the TDF Autism friendly performance at FROZEN and that was sold out and sold at regular prices (or regular group discount prices.)

The Inheritance was up by almost 10% in attendance, but it did not actually gross that much more than the week before, only $31k.

It was a terrible week across the board last week, Phantom might of even lost money. Book of Mormon had its first week below $900K since it opened. The fact that Beetlejuice still stayed above $1M last week amazes me and if I were WB, I would be getting ready to cut a check moving company and the set designer for a move to the Barrymore. With these kinds of numbers in this type of week its only a matter of when will WB announce the formal move to the Barrymore. If I were them I would be trying to align the move so that there is no interruption in performance schedule as to not hurt the undeniably amazing momentum the show has seemed to have.

I wonder if any of these big attendance/grosses drops are corona virus fear related already??

They're not. This week and next week's grosses have been sluggish/behind for all shows well before all this hysteria began.

Week ending 3/15 is when shows will launch higher again.

This week is typically bad for most shows. The past two weeks were holiday weeks with schools out. The two weeks before that were Broadway week with most shows offering BOGO tickets. I'd expect the same for this current week. Things won't pick up until Spring break now.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Does it seem unusual that WSS has the exact attendance every week, not up or down anything? Don't most shows have some fluctuation, with standing room and stuff?

I think it was noted a week or two ago, that The Broadway theatre doesn’t have standing room. That’s why it’s gross doesn’t seem to fluctuate like others.

Pretty sure it had to do with Kids Night last Tuesday.

You posted the exact same question last week and it was explained to you that the Broadway Theatre does not sell SRO.  Now do you understand?

I think you have me mixed up with someone else? I most certainly haven’t asked that question before.

Yeah, user "JSquared" finds it difficult to discern between a poster named FranklinDickson2018 and you, Luminaire2. They are shockingly similar.

Haha, water off a ducks back really. I just didn't enjoy the pointed and quite frankly rude reply, especially when it was incorrect. It just jumped out as strange to me, I've never seen that before.

I don't know Phantom's weekly nut but hopefully it's less than $639k. I did check for the same exact week last year and Phantom had a gross of $645k so this past week's $639k is similar.

Even if Phantom lost money this past week hopefully its grosses for the rest of the year will make up for it.

I am not saying Phantom is in any danger of closing I am just saying that its grosses dropping below $650K and Mormon dropping below $900K point to how bad a week it was. Phantom's weekly nut were posted in a New York Times expose on how to maintain a long running show around the time of the recession and I could of sworn it was surprisingly low between $550K-$650K for a production of its size. As long as Phantom is consistently a member of the million dollar club in the summer its not going anywhere.

If this week were to point to danger for any show is would be Jagged Little Pill, which seems to of eaten through its pre-opening advance and is only going to continue to struggle as Spring musicals open and eat into its new musical buzz. At this point if Jagged Little Pill doesn't become a major awards contender I wouldn't expect it last past this summer.

Of the long runners this week show's weakness in Mean Girls and Harry Potter. The former we were already aware of due to their turn to stunt casting, and I have a feeling it has a running cost much higher then we would think for a show that's essentially all contemporary costumes and screens for sets. Harry Potter has already been mentioned, and I am honestly starting to wonder if the production will earn a profit during its Broadway run. As one of if not the most expensive production ever to be mounted on Broadway (it is debatable as if Paramour's capitalization, and the Lyric theater's renovations should be included in Harry Potter's capitalization), I would think Harry Potter's producers would scream from the roof tops when/if the show recoups its capitalization cost. Frozen the former consistent when ill it close production, seems to of found a healthy bottom of the low $900K in a slow week. The fact that Disney isn't using/actively avoiding the easy marketing strategy of Ciara Renee being a POC playing Elsa makes me think Disney sees production sticking around a bit longer than anyone on this board would of said 3 months ago. Yes truly colorblind casting should be applauded, but its an easy angle for some earned media attention that Disney is clearly avoiding/doesn't think it needs.

Exactly.

I do wonder if this virus may have some affect. A good friend works in the hotel business and told me that cancellations for his hotel skyrocketed this past weekend. His hotel stays sold out and he said they are now dead.

I think we are going to see a lot of shows closing, or at least hanging on for dear life while Corona's around.

I personally thought the opposite, but my Wegmans (which is HEAVILY stocked, I work there) is COMPLETELY out of ever cleaning supply you could think of, lysol wipes, spray, hand wipes, santizer, etc.

Even gallons of water are gone in fear of going into quaratine.

I definitely think foreigners are canceling their trips now. It's a hard time to judge as this is typically a slow time for Broadway. Wait until next month to decide the fate of certain shows.

And Jagged Little Pill is in no danger as of now. Yes, this was their worst week, but it's sales up until now have far exceeded expectations. I think they'll do fine for their first year.
