Buena Vista Social Club making twice as much as BOOP is wild.
I feel bad for Boop. Everything I've heard is positive (I see it on Wednesday), but I don't know anyone other than the most dedicated Broadway fans who even know it's happening.
Meanwhile, I guess Othello was so well sold and for so, so much money that even the wave of mediocre reviews can't stop them from basically printing money. Sigh.

So much hate on Othello. You must be David Stone.
Lots of notable happy trails were said this weekend: Maleah Joi Moon, Adam Lambert, Auli’i Cravalho, Bebe Neuwirth, Noah J. Ricketts, Sara Chase, and John Zdrojeski.
Add & JULIET and MHE to the list of money-losers for this week (though it may be a temporary blip for the latter, as Criss was on vacation for most of the week).
Solid starts for the three shows that just started previews.
BUENA VISTA inching towards making some money.
A realistic scenario for BOOP! coming into play here would be the cast being told they’re closing on May 1, but the press release is held off until after the Tony nominees’ initial press junket, as Jasmine will likely be nominated and producers won’t want her to be bombarded with questions about the closing.

I just worry about ticket accessibility. I'm less worried about top prices than I am about there being some affordable tickets on offer. And those offerings for this show were extremely slight. Good Night and Good Luck has similarly high prices, but I think they've made a much larger supply of tickets available for less than $100. But also...it's just not a great production. It's fine. It's entirely fine. But yes, it does bum me out that the highest average ticket price for any Broadway show ever has gone to an unexciting Shakespeare revival.

Oh no- do you really think it will close that soon?

They need to be making over twice the amount they are at the moment. If they don’t pick it up STAT, they’re more than likely toast on May 18.

Right....because this industry is KNOWN for "keeping secrets".

To be fair, this is exactly what LEMPICKA did last year, with noms for Espinosa and Iman.

Wow, the glowing reviews for Buena Vista clearly helped them out a bit! Really happy for them and hope they can sustain the momentum.
MHE had a rough week.
Gypsy is okay but the capacity is low.
Happy that so many plays are doing so well.

A Shakespeare play making over $3MM a week in a 1000 seat house is pretty incredible.
Good Night and Good Luck down 23k? Oof, they better call it quits and pack it up. Lol
Buena Vista Social Club might be the sleeper hit of the season.

Explain to me your definition of the word "Hate"?
Where in this persons post does it scream hate to you?

What lack of accessibility you're speaking of? Othello has $49 lottery and student rush. What else do you want them to do? To give you a free ticket? You could've bought $119 presale ticket in the mezzanine which is what many people did. Good night had the $100 tickets for a split second back in November, now it's $170 for a partial view. Glengarry has no rush nor lottery. Are you similarly concerned about these plays accessibility or is it only Othello that rubs you the wrong way for some reason?

These top grossing shows are simply amazing. two plays doing crazy amounts with huge stars.
My dream Billy Flynn would be Jake Gyllenhaal.
Given how Tituss Burgess was out for 1 performance of OH MARY last week, it's incredible its grosses just dipped $3k. I guess not that many people asked for a refund or prices last week were more expensive than the week prior.

Many did ask for a refund, but apparently were denied based on a show crediting technicality.
BOOP is gonna be a victim of an overcrowded field. It lacks the buzz of most incoming shows like MINCEMEAT, the effusive pre-Broadway reviews of BVSC, or the groundswell of support from something like MAYBE HAPPY ENDING.
New and original musicals have really stepped their game up this year and so a show based on an IP that’s not too much younger than the theatre it’s playing in is not meeting the bang-for-buck ratio. It’s cute and fizzy, but very much a show for easily distracted people who go “Ooh, shiny”

Hey, give AI a few more years and maybe your dream will come true.
Buena Vista (and MHE earlier this season) is proof that reviews can still have a big impact.
I continued to be amazed at how well Gatsby is still doing post-Jordan and Noblezada

& Juliet’s nut has to be less than $1M, or else it would not be mathematically possible for them to have recouped when they did.

Assuming the reported decrease in attendance/capacity for "Wicked" was a sly subtle April 1 joke.
