BOOP isn't where it needs to be yet, but that's definitely a good step in the right direction with their highest attendance, gross, and avg. ticket price yet. A few Tony nominations could really set them up for success!
Real Women Have Curves is really not starting off in a great place, even with very good word of mouth. Hopefully good reviews coupled with that WOM can turn it around.
Wow, quite an impressive week. The year over year comparisons lately are especially strong (I know it was Easter week this year and not in previous years but still...)
First time over $2 million for Aladdin in non-Christmas/New Year's since April 2023. First time over $1 million for Buena Vista and Smash.
Boop is improving but it's certainly not gonna cut it even at those improved numbers. Floyd Collins looks pretty dismal too.
Gypsy's gross is OK but that capacity number continues to be really underwhelming.
I know it's early but Dead Outlaw is not looking so good at the moment and Real Women Have Curves is going to struggle to make it long unless it can get some good buzz soon.

Why does the averages list so many shows at 0% for this week -- did Elon Musk and DOGE get into the Broadway League System -- part of Trump's takeover of Kennedy Center?
Good news for lots of shows this week and overall theatre health despite bad stock market and dollar news.

Helpful to remember re: year over year trendline comparisons, there weren't 2 plays bringing in near $7M on their own last season. Personally, I think it's fantastic that A-list celebrity talent is coming back to the boards because it's good for the brand of BROADWAY. George Clooney being on Broadway is good for the street overall. There's been a bit of a vacuum with Rudin having stepped back, which Seaview to some degree filled with some starry productions, but no one to that level. His shows brought cache to Broadway. His taste level and his Hollywood connections together were a force. So I'm interested to see how things fare with him coming back in earnest. Rising tide lifts all ships as they say.
One I have my eye on is Stranger Things. They *cannot* sustain at $1.1M a week. And that being a holiday week gross? Eeeeeeh. It's not a family show, but it's a huge IP with a huge running cost. So they're gonna need some fire from tonight's opening.
Death Becomes Her has to cost more than what they've been making recently. They'll likely get double digit Tony nominations just by nature of the production, so that'll boost them too.
Real Women Have Curves I hope picks up steam a la MHE. It sure deserves it. I imagine it'll get some reviews and awards love that helps it buoy. The shows that open close to the nominations always tend to have an outsized benefit from the nominations.

It looks like they have adjusted the capacity for Sunset - so 85% because the balcony was closed without Nicole. In reality, it's more like 68%. I guess it's clear why the show is not extending because it does need a name....
I continue to be amused by how much Broadway has changed in just a few years that even shows that gross over $1 million can now be viewed as being in trouble and basically on the brink of death. Not being snarky, just amused.

I started to think something was a bit off with costs when Company announced an 'early' closing back in 2022 with decent numbers that otherwise pre-COVID would seem fine for that kind of show...and even that was years ago now. The costs are just crazy. Which even Sonia Friedman in the NYTimes has confirmed it's got insane:
"For years she has expressed concern about the high costs of producing on Broadway, particularly when compared to the West End, but her concern has intensified since the pandemic, as rising costs for labor, materials and services have driven show budgets — and ticket prices for hot shows — ever higher. She said, for example, that “The Hills of California,” a family drama by Jez Butterworth that she produced last year in both cities, faced production costs that were 350 percent higher in New York than in London."
Equally crazy is that there still appears to be a market for Broadway to pay the ticket prices needed!!

So for decades the narrative has been that costs are so much higher in New York than London with unions being blamed for the difference. But it seems the cost differential has increased since COVID. Can someone with knowledge explain why this is the case?
