With a running cost of 1.2 million per week, Cabaret lost $700,000 last week. Pack it up.

Happy trails to GYPSY and Ian Weinberger, the full-time conductor of HAMILTON for over 5 years who is now on tap to music direct CHESS in the fall.
Remember that this was also supposed to be the final week of CALL ME IZZY, but it was extended by a week to make up for some of Smart's missed time due to injury. (Expect much lower numbers for the show next week.)

Welp. Rough week for everyone except shows that are closing soon or have closed that week. Cabaret having the same grosses as Call me Izzy is wild. Happy too see the "banana" show doing as well as it deserves.
Mamma Mia popularity will never be something I'll comprehend.
I would imagine discussions are underway for an early closure for Cabaret, if it's not already set. There is absolutely no way it can sustain for two whole months at these grosses and there is little indication that any kind of reversal of fortune will happen.
Glad to see Oh Mary is still thriving. Looking at its gross history, it's been remarkably steady for its entire run and does not yet seem to be trending down at all.
I have to imagine THE OUTSIDERS and OPERATION MINCEMEAT lost money last week for the first time in a while, no?
First week of school for many. Summer is over!

Could Mamma Mia be stealing audience members from other Jukebox musicals like Hell's kitchen and &Juliet? I see HK wrapping up by the end of the year.

Buena Vista is down - they may have to pack up by Thanksgiving.
(joking! just wanted to be part of the weekly closing conversation!)

I don't think that's super likely. People don't go to jukebox musicals in general, they go to ones featuring the music they like. Mamma Mia, HK, and &Juliet, I would assume, would all be appealing to different demographics.
John Proctor dropped after Sadie but has been so steady since then. I wish it wasn't closing.
That's a near all time low for & Juliet and it's still August. Its three lowest full weeks of all time were in Sep of last year.
Buena Vista has been a major overperformer and it had a fantastic summer but there's no denying that it's on a bit of a downward trend now.
Embarrassing for Cabaret - to be just slightly ahead of Call Me Izzy? YIKES.
I still believe the Shubert will have a new tenant by Spring/Summer of 2026. I also believe that for the Golden and the Broadway.
These Mamma Mia numbers - makes me wish they had done a full blown revival with some money spent & new direction/design instead of plopping down a cheap touring production.
That's the lowest gross for The Outsiders since before its Tony win.
Jeff Ross dropping down to an $29 average ticket price 😂

Both are assuredly safe.
At this point, though, that number for CABARET is just tragic. I was actually looking at the seat maps for Porter’s upcoming absences, and they actually look a *little* better sold - which makes me think people might actually be taking the hint to go and see Marisha while they can do so without Billy.
Someone was posting that we may see a bloodbath in January similar to that of 2009 and I still feel like it’s way too early for such a prediction, especially since the long runners are experiencing an expected dip that comes before LDW.
I’ll concede that sales for new shows (Queen of Versailles, Two Strangers) being astronomical does not help matters CHESS fares little better - but they have more “bankable” names in that they Tveit & Michele has massive theatre followings and Chenoweth, while a legend, may end up going the Idina/REDWOOD route if the show itself is a turd.

It is truly crazy that they comped Jeff Ross' show so hard that their average price is well below what they are charging for rush and lotto tickets (and TDF!)

Jeff Ross' show ticket price is the lowest i have ever seen......

This seems like a good time for me to bring up one of my biggest joys in life - The Blonde in the Thunderbird - which ran from July 8, 2005 through July 23, 2005. I attended the first preview via tdf and was probably the only person in the audience who paid (tdf was probably around $40 at the time).
For the three weeks that this show ran, the average ticket prices were $19.49, $11.02 and $11.86.

It's lower than a full price IMAX or Dolby format movie ticket 🥲

Most community theaters in NJ charge around that price.
There's two more shows I'm curious about how long producers will keep them going:
1. Stranger Things: First Shadow? Six months into the run and it's averaging 72% sold with a gross below $1M, and it's got an expensive cast and crew. I'm not saying it *should* close, but it's regularly near the bottom of the list and it hasn't come close to doing the same kind of business that, say, Harry Potter did in its first two years.
2. Six is now regularly selling around 70-75% of the house, and its grosses have been dropping slowly for several months. It's also about to have its 4th anniversary - a rare feat. I know it's cheap to run, but how much profit is it making with a gross of just $511K?
Just wondering out loud, I suppose. I don't dislike either show, but I also don't love either of them. How long will they stay open?
(Honest guesses, I think Six stays until Labour Day 2026, hits 2,000 shows, then closes. Stranger Things either closes at New Years or pushes to Aug. 2026 and then calls it.)

I am amazed that Hamilton is back to #1. Based on lack of availability and the prices while they were available when LO Jr. joins, I imagine it will do Othello / GL&GN grosses while he is in the show. Can you imagine what it would do if LMM came back, even if he reads too old for the role in a way that LO Jr. does not to me.
I wonder why the producers have not closed Cabaret? Ego? We lost so much, what is another few million? it’s gonna come back right after Labor Day? Just amazing.
i suspect that BV has peaked and will do fine, but not spectacular business until at least next summer.
I am also wondering what type of a war chest Chicago has built over the years. They have to be losing money an awful lot at this point. Of course, if they put up a closing notice, business would probably jump spectacularly.
Stranger Things is holding out for a surge of interest from the upcoming season premiering in November. Plot from the play will become relevant, so I imagine they’re hoping audiences will care enough to go to the companion piece. Whether that will pan out is yet to be seen, but that’s clearly their plan.

I suspect that Cabaret is waiting until late-in-the-day on Friday to announce an early closing...... bury the lead so that it's less embarrassing

It’s usually “bury the lede,” but in this case…
