I'm curious what happened at Wicked. I don't think I've ever seen their attendance percentage that low before.

What a weird week. Newsies dropped from 7th place to 10th place. The Book of Mormon raised out of no where. Craaazzzzy

The Book of Mormon didn't rise out of nowhere. It actually saw a minor dip in its numbers. It just saw less of a dip than The Lion King and Wicked, which have been the only two shows consistently making more each week since it opened (with it often vying with Spider Man for that third place slot).

Think Newsies has been lower than 100% before after the Easter holidays, it's still doing good business regardless. Wicked really took a hit but I don't think we should worry about it just yet.

Speaking only for myself, I agree that there is no cause for hand-wringing over at the Gershwin. I'm just curious what the cause for that anomaly was. My guess is a major group booking that got cancelled last minute, and I would assume that Wicked gets very little inquiry at the box office for walk-up sales to cover that since it is widely known, even amongst tourists, that it is rare for tickets to be available day of.

Once dips below $1 million for the first time since it won the best musical Tony Award. It still had a 96.2% capacity with a $120 average ticket price. Only shows I'd worry about right now are Starcatcher, Chaplin & Bring It On.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Actually, I'm pretty sure ONCE didn't gross a million (or more) until two or three weeks after winning the award.

EDIT: Never mind, it barely broke a million the week after. I confused that with that whole competition people were making between ONCE and NEWSIES because NEWSIES outgrossed ONCE for several weeks after the TONYs, and it wasn't until they increased ticket prices that ONCE surpassed it.

Do you think the recent Wicked drops are a decrease in demand for their premium seating? I'm guessing the show still sells out of non-premium seats...

I've seen more advertising for cheaper Wicked seats lately...

If you look back to last year, Wicked had a very similar drop the week of Labor Day. And while not as pronounced, had a drop in 2010 this week as well. It's just a tourist/timing thing.

All I know is Wicked sold a smaller percentage of its seats than Phantom. And I am enjoying that fact. : ) Please nobody remind me that the Gershwin is bigger than the Majestic or any other unrelated facts ; )

Could Jeremy leaving also have contributed to Newsies? Probably wont matter for long but maybe when people heard the star was leaving they were hesitant. It's been on TKTS every show, varying percentages.

The only Film/TV gig that Jeremy has that is remotely big at the moment is SMASH Season 2 which hasn't even aired yet. And I think the only people who are buzzing about it are Broadway die-hards like the people on these message boards.

Besides Corey Cott is a phenomenal Jack Kelly as well, and I don't think that Jeremy leaving the show will affect Newsies business in any way.
