I wonder if the performance for Dear Evan Hansen will be Ben performing since he's the guest that day. For the first rest of the performances that week, it shows a picture of performers of the shows and "a performance from [insert show]".

Edit: We LOVE to see Queen Brittney getting Glinda TV time! I'll be DVRing that one for sure!

The first performance is from Little Shop.

I didn't understand what the fuss was about Tammy Blanchard's portrayal of Audrey but having seen this, I just wanna say, some choices were made.

Looking fwd to seeing this in a few weeks- i thought the opening number was actually weaker- it seemed unsteady. But Skid Row clicked. Blanchard sounded shaky at first but I thought she and Jordan closed the number down well.

Her performance here is actually much more tame and controlled than her sloppy and disastrous performance I saw live back in 2019... It was without a doubt one of the oddest performances I have never seen on stage.

That was a bit underwhelming. And way too choreographed.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

was just post on Little show thread. She sound ...forced. Maybe she s sicked? it's like she try to  push out all her effort but that s all come out. Dunno, it's a bit weird, especially her 1st solo part and she belt quite shaky.

i am so fascinated by the dichotomy between those who rave about her (on here, in the NYT) and those who says shes a dumpster fire. she clearly wasnt cast for her powerful vocals but shes done really great work in other stuff, so i look fwd to seeing her (and wish I had gotten the chance to see Glick)

I did not think the Little Shop number was the best choice for TV. I would have chose something else. It looked like that were trying to utilize the entire cast. The staging of the number did not adapt well to the camera. And as long as you have Jordon in the cast you might as well do a number where he can belt.

I shall forever be in the “Tammy Blanchard is an incredible Audrey” camp.

I like what Tammy Blanchard did. Not everything has to be Ellen Greene... I like seeing a different type of Audrey and some bold choices to a show that is almost, if not always, done the same way at theaters across  the country.

Definitely a strange song choice, and depressing, to feature.  But they probably wanted to showcase the whole cast.  Something is off with the Urchins though.  Not sure if it's their styling or their energy, or honestly how one is so much taller than the others, that they just look off.

Also Blanchard is still a dead ringer for Judy.  Especially with that wig!

She's just terrible. I hope they announce dates for her alternate who can actually sing beautifully.

Ok, so it wasn't just me. I had the same reaction. They sounded good though.

it was very unsteady and strange at first- the tall actress center is costumed in a pretty modern, tight outfit with glasses and short hair- and the other two look like they are about to break into Good Morning Baltimore... all can clearly sing but it sounded thin, muted.

but i disagree that Skid Row is a bad choice- its catchy, it showcases the two leads, showcases a flashy ensemble number, and sets up some plot. Cant think of anything to better sell this show to a broad audience, except Suddenly Seymour which is ballad/duet, not a show number. I thought it came off well.

Yup. The number read better when I stopped focusing on the tallest actress. The other two were more charismatic and less modern. Overall, there seemed to be a vibe of the actors appearing in different shows, especially with the three leads.

Also agreed on the Judy part. It actually made me think of the Renee Zellwegger movie. It was one of those movie performances where "actors who sing" communicate that singing is hard through the whole performance.

BC has declared that he loves Tammy because not everything had to be Ellen Greene. Not everything does have to be Ellen Greene, but I’d like my Audrey to sound good in a musical that I’m paying good money to see. Very happy to have shows open and be able to disagree about these things again.

I don't need her to be Ellen Greene, I doubt that is anyone's expectation. I agree, I want her to sound good. This is New York theater, I expect top talent who can actually sing. Not that much to ask.

I thought the same thing! I thought to myself, "So, this is what Judy would look like in a production of 'Little Shop' ".

Christian Borle in the ensemble is was the stand out to me of all the performers. Like I've said in previous threads, the tempo seemed off during the opening.

The tempo in the opening is very slow in this production for some reason. It really robs the song of its energy, in my opinion. And add me to the chorus of people who’d rather have an Audrey who can sing. I wouldn’t have minded Blanchard’s acting choices if she had a strong singing voice, but she does not.

Now that you mention it, yeah. That is part of what was off for me. I kept looking at their costumes and thinking something felt a bit off. And maybe it was because the actress in the center was so tall that my eyes kept shifting. But again, they sounded great and I loved the choreography.

Exactly. I was so happy to see it since I love Little Shop but it was all a little odd. Loved Christian Borle and he was barely in it!

Warren was fine.  But after hearing Aisha Jawando sing the score, I can't listen to anyone else (besides OG Tina).  Jawando is just miles above vocally.
