It’s so interesting that some in these threads are trying to paint everyone who is realistic on this matter and understands how this was always going to happen as the next step in “returning to normal”, as anti-science and essentially sounding like we’re the reason this is happening.

Reading comprehension is important. The poll literally says 70% of people either aren't going to go (11%) or will continue wearing a mask. That's a pretty good indicator that most people are against the change."

Many of those people will get long COVID. It'll be interesting to see how they feel after that happens.

This does not take into account that in most of these places and situations, people are mobile or have the freedom to move around or get out, or may only be there for a short amount of time. In the theatre you may be sat directly next to or in front of someone who is coughing up a storm. For 2+ hours. My parents will not choose seats that aren’t on the aisle so that they can get up in the event someone around them seems sick. They also won’t be attending performances for the foreseeable future with the mandate being dropped.
Additionally, for many of the situations you mentioned above, there are also people who cannot or will not partake in any of those precisely because many are unmasked. They felt safe in a theatre because of the mandate, and was one of the few places left in public indoors where this was the case. Now that it’s being taken away, they won’t feel safe.
How is this any worse than an airplane? In an airplane you're in confined spaces with people for the duration of the flight with very poor air circulation.
The same people who don’t want to be in the theatre with the mask mandate being dropped are the same people who aren’t flying on a plane right now for that exact reason. They’re sort of trapped. There are some who are uncomfortable going to grocery stores still (though that’s a bit extreme), but at least there you can easily move or leave if necessary.
I’m fully aware that at some point the mandate was bound to be dropped, so I’m not shocked nor hurt…though I do think it could have been handled better or with at least more lead time instead of 10 days. I will still go myself in a mask, though maybe a bit more selectively. However, there’s a good chance that for every person producers might gain by dropping the mandate, they’re losing others who will be too uncomfortable to risk it. It’s just a matter of fact for the time being.

Still sticking to your erroneous 30% long COVID statistic, I see.

No, the "poll" LITERALLY does not say that. It LITERALLY says that 70% of the people who had enough time on their hands and who saw the poll on a single theatre-centric website bothered to respond that way (and we all know that MANY people who post here post under multiple account names and responded multiple times).

It's people who are acting like we're still in March 2020 when we knew nothing. You see this same vocal minority on twitter. They think everyone who is being reasonable is an anti-masking Trumpster instead of realists who recognize how things evolved and how we are in a much different place than over two years ago.

MOST of those things do not have me sitting practically shoulder to shoulder for 2+ hours, inevitably breathing in droplets of some 500 to 1500 STRANGERS. Yes, the subway gets crowded - and I actually saw MANY people wearing masks when I was in the city 2x in the last few weeks. We were NEVER the only ones doing so.
Is there any guarantee that we won't still catch covid? Of course not, but that's always been the case. And yes, I know that my odds of becoming SERIOUSLY ill due to it are very slim - but I'd rather not get ill at all.
Other cultures (mostly Asian, from my awareness) have often worn masks when they've been sick - with a cold, the flu, etc - so as not to infect the people around them. At first, I thought it was quite odd when I became aware of it a few years ago - but now I very much see the sense in it, why wouldn't we all WANT to help protect others (as well as ourselves)?"
Thank you for saving me the time!

No, their constant berating of anyone who disagrees with them makes that person a troll. Thanks for playing!
I honestly just wish the Broadway league had set a "if this happens then we will lift the mandate policy" alla If all shows able to get through a calendar month without having to cancel a show due to covid, then the mask mandate will be lifted 2 weeks later.
Add to that the fact that it has since come out that Equity was not even consulted on the lifting of the mandate is a bad look all around.
I have a question about the required testing of performers and other theatre workers.
Is that dictated by the league similar to this mask policy, or is it apart of the contracts with different unions? Like, does equity have more of a say in testing?
Also, do they have a certain benchmark they’re trying to reach to eliminate the need for testing?

I attended a screening at the United Palace on Sunday. Their previous ones they only released a certain amount of tickets so the theatre wasn’t filled to capacity - lots of unoccupied rows and seats throughout. Masks were required at all times. This past Sunday they only asked that you wear your mask to enter the theatre but once at your seat, you could do as you wish and that’s what 95% of people did: they took their masks off. Also, this was the first screening they did where every seat was filled - no empty rows or big gaps of empty seats. There ya go.

Pretty sure that the full house was because of Raiders and Spielberg, and not the relaxed mask policy. Also, for what it's worth, everyone in my row was wearing a mask, and I saw plenty of others wearing them, as well.

I’ve been to EVERY screening they’ve done at the United Palace (this was your first). The lines to get in were much worse for the Hugh Jackman/GREATEST SHOWMAN. At 11am (for 12pm doors open), the line wrapped 4 blocks and the back of the line was past the front of the theatre. For this RAIDERS screening, at 11am the line was only 40 people deep from entrance. Also, due to COVID protocol, only a certain number of seats were released for those previous screenings to allow for social distancing. Those screenings (like RAIDERS) were ALSO sold-out same day tickets were released. Based on the insane lines for the GREATEST SHOWMAN, the turn out was much bigger. The RAIDERS screening was the first one they released every single ticket which is why the theatre was filled to capacity for the very first time unlike the previous screenings. Had ZERO to do with the film as ALL the previous screenings were also sold-out far in advance, amigo.
Curious what peoples experiences were tonight. At “Into the Woods”, walking in I’d say around 75% of people had masks on and by the time the lights came up for intermission, I’d say it was closer to 15% masked.
I was also at Into the Woods. My 2 friends and I had masks on. We were in the rear mezz and not many had them on. I know almost the entire row in front of and behind me in the left mezz did not have them; a girl and her boyfriend sitting directly behind one of my friends coughed the entire show, occasionally sneezing with the girl also blowing her nose. Did either of them have a mask on? OF COURSE NOT. It was quite anxiety inducing for me (got home with a knot in my back due to being so nervous) and as mentioned earlier in this thread, I don’t plan on buying any more tickets in the near future. I do have a ticket to American Buffalo for next weekend, bought specifically after they announced their mask mandate will continue.
