Spotted this, @BWayCon on Twitter via Anthony Rapp. Scheduled for Jan 2016. (Since he's a gamer, I suppose he's familiar with the huge gaming conventions.) https://www.broadwaycon.com/
I wonder about that. Conventions are major tourist events in the cities I've visited for them; there tend to be hotel deals, as well as the fact that winter is usually cheaper in NYC, right? As there will be performances and probably highly centralized information sources, this could be a major boon in getting tourists out and help shows along that period of time. *Although not necessarily fantastic for the young adults in school, as winter breaks don't usually go that far out into January, but conventions always take place over a weekend, soooo...
I've been to a few conventions before, and yes, they're usually completely nuts SO MUCH ENERGY AND STUFF AND SWAG AND--I'm not that young anymore, though.
No doubt they want to bring in more viewers for the winter month. But for that reason too, I can't see myself going to NYC in January, especially at the risk of flight cancellations, etc.
I was thinking the same thing about it being January. It would definitely help ticket sales and the Hilton would be happy to fill up rooms. And it won't compete with other cons.

Kewl. I'm going dressed as the Baker in Into The Woods
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Whoa! I just saw the badge prices, though. This is priced to compete with a premium Broadway show ticket, not other conventions I've been to or know about (around $40-60 per day or $60-100 for roughly a 3-day weekend). Hmmm.
I just hope they make the ticket prices worthwhile for a winter trek to NYC. But I also realized that a portion of the proceeds go to BC/EFA, so there's that. Other conventions I know of don't do that.
Half the fun of conventions are the sexy costumes. The January setting will deny us of the Anita Morris Carla cosplayers, not to mention those coming in Oh Calcutta outfits
Nothing stops someone from dressing minimally as conventions are indoors, often in the same hotel.
The Flea Market could overlap with this, but most likely any show booths will be for current or future shows so you may not find any old stuff, and I don't think the Flea market has the panels and stuff: http://www.broadwaycon.com/schedule/
Looks like an intriguing and ambitious effort, though
I'd hope whoever is running the convention looks at the layouts of other conventions to get a clue. Passenger flow is kind of important if you're expecting several thousand bodies in there. I highly doubt this will reach anywhere the level of SD Comic-Con (over 130k) or PAX (over 70k), but still.
The organizers are looking for panel topics - so a topic "Broadwayworld.com and Its Denizens" could be suggested. More likely, a panel on "Social Media and Broadway" will likely be held. And either panel MUST include Marc Shaiman's song:
