hugo doesn't sing. that's correct. i read for hugo and sang also but they specifically told me i was being called back for ensemble. every boy at the callback on the 5th was reading the hugo side. i think they're looking for covers for hugo and kim. has your son danced since the dance call on the 29th? i'm sure they'll have a dance callback soon but it's hard to tell if this is the end of the line for me or if i could still hear once these hugo, ursula and kim auditions are done...
thanks for your help stagemama.

bwayboy07- My son had a second callback on April 20. I think all the boys at that callback had danced already. But hey, you never know- they may still callback for dancers. During his first callback, they told him they'd see him in a couple of weeks, so we knew walking out the doorthat he had a second callback coming. Unfortunately. he was not told that this time, so now we're waiting, but hey- its acting! The only thing you ever know for sure is that you sign a contract to perform. Like I stated earlier, it' s rare that you find out you didnt 'make it'. Most of the time after a couple days of not hearing anything, you put two and two together... It sucks, but imagine trying to tell people that they didnt make it, people would never let them off the phone, crying, pleading, begging for a second chance and carrying on...
Here we go again! Guess were getting down the wire. My son has a third callback, but this time to dance. So there are callbacks for dancers on Monday, the 27th. Still no guarantee for a role though, just a little closer...
noahrp3- No, my son read for Hugo and sang again on the 20th, like he did on the 5th. The only other time he danced was the initial equity dancers call on the 29th of March. This has been a long process for this play. Even if he doesnt get whatever theyre trying him out for, we are honored to have made it this far into consideration. It's awesome! "Break A Leg!", to anyone else out there who has made it this far!
So heres the deal. At the callback yesterday, noticed that the kids were considerably younger than at the original audition. Most of the kids from '13' were there and kids from another Broadway show my son did were there also. I was told by a parent that his son and most of the boys went in on the agents call on March 30, had their first callback on 23, and this was their second call back on the 27. Apparently, they'd been running two separate sets of auditions all along. The boys did exactly like the girls before them. They learned the choregraphy, performed it in groups, then everyone sang, and some were asked to read again. Another parent told me that her email said there would be one more callback and a decision made by May 5. From the kids I know, they were all professionals, having worked on Broadway before. As for my son, he did his best. We dont know how the director/choregrapher will choose, but with all the talent there, he has his work cut out, because everyone was incredibly awesome. Although each audition is handled diffently, I hope I've given some of you some insight into the audition process for this play. To everyone, Good luck, Best Wishes and Break A Leg in your quest for a spot on the big stage
ok, i work at a management place, and on breakdowns today it said bye bye birdie, casted by jim carnahan is seeking submissions for "kim" and "conrad." ages 15-22. it didn't say kim/conrad understudies either, so they're still looking...
yep. a friend of mine went to the dance callbacks. she said a lot of the kids there were already cast in the show from the workshop. they were just at the dance audition...for some reason? she doesn't know if she made it or not because of the new people who were there she hadn't seen before. either way, she is very lucky to have made it as far as she did. wish it could've been me...but i guess it's only fair. she, like most of the kids at the dance callback, have done professional work already and it's only fair that they work up. if people from the open call who just want an in and haven't done professional work get in, it would just not be fair to the people who worked their way up.
My friend went to the Open Calls- Has been called back three times and will be coming on Monday for a final callback for the entire creative team. She said a lot of people from the workshop were at the dance audition (notably Remy Zaken of SA) and a lot of the 13 cast. She is amazingly talented and I really am hoping for the best things for her!
My son has a fourth callback on Monday, for which I understand is the final callback. It's an all day affair, ending with a mix and match session, which lets me know that by the time these kids leave, creatives would have made some sort of casting decision. Like I stated earlier, the kids I saw this past Monday were incredible. I am absolutely floored that my son is apparently in the same group. I wish everyone the best!
The last callback for everyone was yesterday. While I thought that two auditions were going on at one time, it was actually three. People we havent seen before on any of the other callbacks were there. It was easy to make out that some of the people were older than the group from last Monday. Conrads were there, Hugos, Kims and Ursulas, ending with little boys as we were leaving. All the creatives were there. So everybody in ensemble meets up together, which turns out to be twenty five boys and about twenty five girls. They did the usual, dance, sing and read. Finally they mixed and matched in groups of three. As I guessed it- one group was older, one group was younger and apparently, one group was shorter. With all this, it all boils down to how they are going to look together on stage. The hardest part is going to be for the creatives, because they had the most talented fifty people, cut down from over two thousand to choose from. The casting director did a wondeerful job. Whether or not my son lands a role, I will not post again. Not all shows go on with callbacks for over a month and four or five callbacks, but I just wanted some of you to know how the process for this show went.
Thanks for letting us know. I hope your son gets a part and I'm definitely looking forward to the full cast announcement.

My friend just found out today she was cast in the ensemble! Not sure if she is understudying anyone. Though I know she was called back for Ursula so that would be a possibility. But, she is incredibly talented- just was Millie in our HS's production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" & Gussie in "Merrily" last year...She is only 16 If you want a preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWa0xLYo2jM&feature=PlayList&p=4EB1362562F88825&index=0&playnext=1
