I always assumed they would fill most of the ensemble with the people from these callbacks but if they're having separate ones then I guess that's not the case.

ok guys, we can get to the bottom of this. lol.
if we try to see WHO was calledback, like their type. if they were all white/kim/urusla/hugo looking characters, then they're probably still going to have callbacks for the ensemble. because we all know roundabout was very adamant about having a diversified cast. especially on their phone message they really wanted people of all ethnicities to attend the call. that's just another helping guide i suppose...unless they decided to go in a TOTALLY different direction and have only white kids in the cast. then that's fine. sucks for me haha.
also, people on here are telling different stories so none of us REALLY know what's happening. i heard from an intern that they were calling back possible kims/birdies/hugos. she didn't say anything about ursula, although she probably just forgot to mention ursula's name.
thanks. let me know if anything else happens!! good luck to everyone. ik it's such a far yet very close dream.

Allie Trimm was just in the City, and Ariana Grande is... it could be just a coincidence of timing or they both tried out.

Allie Trimm portrayed the role of Patrice in Jason Robert Brown's 13 the musical on Broadway, and Ariana Grande also starred in 13 as Charlotte and Patrice U/S
Don't they look a little young to be in Birdie?
They were just 13..now 15?

I WENT! It was a great experience, and a REAL eye opener. I flew in from Los Angeles and was fortunate enough to get a callback, and went back the next day. They gave me a side to look over overnight for the role of Hugo, and told me to prepare a whole song. I guess they really are trying to go for a diversified cast.
So all we can do now is sit and wait :)
And the director is pretty specific about what he wanted here:

NEW FLASH: THIS IS OFFICIAL!!!
Meredith Hagner is playing Kim
Matt Doyle is playing Hugo
this is truth, i swear. a friend of mine was emailed about an audition and in the email with her appointment time it said at the end: the contact info of the company, then cast: Kim - Meredith Hagner, Hugo- Matt Doyle. i'm guessing it's the matt doyle from spring awakening?
that's it. no other roles were listed on the cast list for teens except those two. she's going for an ursula callback.
peace.

not sure...that's just what it said in the email. they WERE looking for ppl ages 15-22..so she probably plays young very well. she also might have a very great agent. i mean it wasn't like a personal email like "hey how are you" it was an appointment email and like just had info about the show at the end, and part of the info was the two cast teen parts. sorry, that's all the info i know...i mean, take it with a grain of salt if you want since this is the internet. but it was an email from a casting asst.

Meredith and Matt had the roles from the workshop. I thought the only role open for Kim was understudy all along -- at least that was the reference on our original call notice....they never mentioned the actual lead being open. I do think its a bit odd that they would let that slip to agents before creating an official press release. However, it makes alot of sense.

yea...that's cool though that we know officially what's going on ...lol. abrams is like a really strong agency isn't it? do they like let you go out on auditions sometimes too?

Yeah, it's definitely one of the best out there!
I WISH I got to out on auditions and stuff through them. I basically just do file work, organize stuff, alphabetize, and chill out. It's actually a great internship.
But I have gone to auditions and stuff anyway, I'm just waiting for the day I can put them down on my resume haha. I thought the fact that I got a callback would make them fawn over me. *JOKE* I was wrong anyway. Ah well....welcome to this crazy business of show.

i dont believe that Matt is Hugo...that makes no sense at all. they're going to cast a 17 year old understudy for a part played by a guy in his 20s? really? and the ensemble is all going to be 16/17 while the leads, who are supposed to be the same age, are 22? makes no sense.

you don't HAVE to believe it, but that's what the email said.
he was in spring awakening and at those auditions they typed people out as well, and a lot of the girls there were only 13. so...he plays young well. so does the girl playing kim. it's ok if you don't believe it, but that's what the official email said.
