I'm surprised they would call this "Celebrity" autobiography... From the list announced I wonder why they wouldn't call this "Life on the D List"

Well, the entire premise is them acting out famous memoirs in the character of the person who wrote it.
It’s the spiritual ancestor of ALL OUT/ALL IN. Not a bad way for some people to get a summer check and a Broadway credit.
I’d honestly be tickled to see Bruce Vilanch because he’s such a wit and a big part of why awards shows are as funny and queer as they are.

Ewww. I saw one of these way back when with Sheri Shepard and the husband and wife team who created the premise at some hole in the wall. Broadway has truly lost its magic. Wishing them success. But this makes me sad.

This is just a placeholder. Prime real estate in the area would have been vacant for nearly 9 months otherwise.

I understand that. But it is Broadway. There should be standards.

What’s the issue? If you don’t like it, don’t buy a ticket. Easy.

There have never been standards. It's business.

Exactly. I think it sounds like a great idea.

Oh no issue. As I said.. I wish them success. It just seems so unreal. I guess I am one of the old didies that thought Broadway meant the pinnacle. Hope you enjoy.

Oh don’t get me wrong. I would never buy a ticket for this either. I just don’t see what the problem is that it exists.

No problem that its exists. It just surprised me that anyone would think this belongs on Broadway. I guess I am out of touch.

The press release I got from OMDKC says it begins 5/16, formally opens 5/18. The only enclosed link that worked was a link to Telecharge.
Looks like the balcony is closed and a surprising amount of seats in the front orch are being withheld.

Thanks Kad. Hope it is fun. Some of the casting can bring some people in. I bet Molly Shannon brings them in. I did see her once on stage and found her irritating. But people will come. It is just such a weird thing. But the most interesting thing on this board today.

If Beaches can hang on, every theater would have an occupant for a short time with this announcement (not counting whatever happens with Book of Mormon)

A casual look at the schedule appears to show Mario Cantone is doing the entire run, which should be a hoot.

Cantone's reading of Melissa Gilbert's memoir is how it's done, people. I still return to this every now and then and get a chuckle every time.

Have you….paid attention to some of the shows that graced Broadway over the past 20-25 years?
Hell, we just had Beetlejuice flop for the third time in six years and Beaches is playing to sold out houses made up exclusively of ghosts, cobwebs, and Jessica Vosk’s cell phone. Let’s not kid ourselves about “standards”.

Yeah --- where's Clay Aiken and Ruben Stoddard when you need them? Or Rob Lake? Or The Illusionists??
Hell, Titanique alone should be enough proof that "standards" are not a thing on Broadway.

What made you think Broadway was the pinnacle of anything beyond commercial theater?
CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY to have summer run at the Shubert#25

"Commercial Theater" - as opposed to what? Commercial theater, like Broadway, thrives on willing participants: producers and investors put up their own money hoping for profit, and ticket-buyers freely choose to spend their earnings for an evening of entertainment. The opposite is theater subsidized by government money — funds taken through taxation from people who would not willingly buy a ticket or invest in the production themselves. I guess Coercive Theater?
