Why surprised? What was the last major Sondheim revival that didn’t get a recording? (Asnes this one makes more sense than others, since by all accounts we should unofficially still stay tuned for news about the show’s transfer.)

Is this our first major cast album to be recorded in our - sad to say - post-Sondheim era? CSC’s ASSASSINS to receive cast album

I hope some of the dialogue--particularly Andy Grotelueschen's monologues--gets recorded for this album. I thought it was a phenomenal production all-around and I look forward to listening to it!

Also hoping we get an announcement about Company getting recorded soon.

They probably haven't recorded it yet. It's less expensive to record an album after a show has closed.

Check Broadway Records' social media posts; it may be being recorded as we speak, or had some parts of it recently recorded.

If it's years later...maybe (under certain circumstances). Just weeks later...nope.

Very excited to hear this news. I wasn't able to get to NY in time to see this production, but I had an odd question for those that did. Did Steven Pasquale as Wilkes Booth not sport a mustache? In photos I dont see one and it struck me as odd. Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere.

Performances are great but Ooo.

Really really missing the brass. Especially in the bridge.

I think it's actually a very necessary orchestration element of this show, and especially the sort of Carpenters, 70'sey song this is supposed to be a riff on that brass is what makes it.

If I remember correctly the orchestrations were greatly expanded for the original cast album. I’m not sure Assassins has ever been staged with an orchestra that large and I don’t believe the show really cries out for that treatment. My biggest issue is the amount of artificial reverb in that video but listening to the album now that is happily not the final mix I’m hearing.

Listening to a few songs right now and loving them, but I need to get some sleep. Excited for a full listen tomorrow!

That is true, but the 2004 Broadway production had 13 musicians, and it sounds very full on the cast recording.

Also, why can’t I find this new recording on iTunes or Apple Music?

I'll never turn down a new recording of my favorite Sondheim show, and I loved this production, but this won't supplant the Roundabout album for me. I really miss that final gunshot at the end of the show - obviously, in the live production that was covered by

footage of the Capitol riots,

but I don't think it works without the gunshot. While I vastly preferred CSC's production to the 2017 one at City Center, I was disappointed that both of them fell into the trap of trying to do something "current" with the ending instead of keeping the original.

I know you. I know you. I know you.

I adore the way the band sounds like a seedy, roadside side show band. We already have a lush Assassins (two actually!).

Always happy for a new recording of Assassins. The accompaniment is really well done, I particularly appreciate the vibrant down-home vibe (feels like it's being performed in the actual bar the assassins meet in), and the vocals feel much less cartoony than the Broadway recording, which is welcome. I will say, I do kind of miss the game show vibe of the Broadway recording, particularly for the moment where Guiteau's corpse is just swinging there and the orchestra is going wild. Those moments of gleeful, violent juxtaposition are my favorite element of the show. I'm also convinced that Something Just Broke is unnecessary, but it's pretty and the use of the vibraphone is fantastic in this one.

This might be the best sung recording of the score to date; very pleasantly surprised! Now I’ll be kicking myself for missing the production in person.
