Whoever said this on here weeks ago was right!
I think he would be a great Tony.
Wait, did Aaron Tveit get his name changed to Matt Cavenaugh?
Weird.
Even though we've known this for weeks now, I'm still not the least bit excited. Blah.
I thought they were going to cast this revival age appropriate.
Oh well. I become less and less excited about this revival every day.

Wow.
So much for age-appropriate casting.
HOWEVER, I think he would make a GREAT Tony, age aside.
This is absolutely FANTASTIC news. So excited for this revival. Congrats, Matt.

I hope that Maria isn't played by a 17-year-old, then!
Lol. I find this funny. A boy like that would not kill your brother...
what a good choice for the role of Tony. Can't wait for the revival of my favorite musical. However, it will be very odd if he has a 17 y/o Maria. I mean look at how weird Borle and Bailey look together and shes 19.
Very nice. I just hope he doesn't use some overdone accent, like in Grey Gardens...
What about Matt with Karen Olivo if their forgetting their age idea
or
karen= Anita
Excellent
I hope it's true. I think he's perfect for the part.
What happened to Aaron Tveit?????????????????????
I loved his accent in Grey Gardens, and thought it was very appropriate and effective...
He doesn't at all seem like a "tough guy." He's the kind of person the gang would beat up.

I mean I'm thrilled I think he'd be great, but now Natascia Diaz better be Anita. Hands down the best Anita I have ever seen on a stage.
Pardon my ignorance, but is Tony supposed to be a tough guy? I've only seen the movie and a high school production - but he seems to want peace among everyone more than anything and seems to be happy go lucky ish. more specifically after meeting Maria

He did co-found the Jets, so I imagine he's a little rough around the edges. It's just by the time the show starts he's sort of outgrown it all, or so he thinks.
At least, that's the impression I've always gotten.
And for the love of heaven, please stop suggesting belty altos for Maria. Karen Olivo in looks would be great, but you need serious soprano chops for Maria and I don't think that she has those.
Nitpick: Bailey's 20 or 21, not 19.
That casting is ok by me if they do the rumble in the nude!
millie_dillmount, Aaron Tveit auditioned for the show but did not receive a callback.
Matt Cavenaugh should be very good, but as the article cited alludes, let his casting serve as a foreshadowing toward the abandonment of the original "age appropriate casting" idea stirred up by the creative team.
With other people like Curtis Holbrook (as Action) and Paul McGill (as Baby John) cast as well, it's safe to say they won't be using real teens after all.

What about her as anita
Great casting!
Spork, Karen Olivo recently said in an interview that she is a Soprano in every sense of the word, by her training. She just hasn't played a Soprano role in New York yet.
I heard tell that Tyler Hanes and Curtis Holbrook are/were up for Riff.
Could be...who knows?...
Actually, I think Curtis was tapped to play Action.
