This could have, hopefully, an impact on future projects (...?)
List the shows you would most like to see on Broadway in the near future (since we already have a thread on "revivals", let's just concentrate on originals (be them from movies, books, whatever!)
I'll update this in a few with mine, so, start without me, by all means!

Uhh this is hard
A show of James and the Giant Peach!!!!! To me, it just seemed that for the most part it could be easily translated into a show.

You are right, this IS hard, why do you think I said I would come back with mine (I already have quite a few, but want to post all at same time) :)
And...Bon Jovi? I would not lol, I think I would dig it, but ONLY if the real BJ would play himself (guess who is a BIG, BIG, BJ fan...!)

I've said this before on this forum. I think that a tastefully made show about Memphis Minnie could make a great American musical. I think it would take an American team to write it and stage it, not me. The music is largely a given, just look at Memphis Minnie's repertoire. That's not saying original music and songs couldn't also be integrated.
Her story has all sorts of theatrical possibilities, life on the streets, the juke joints, Beale Street, The Great Depression and the WWll, the travelling circus (Ringling Brothers), her Vaudeville company... artistic success and recognition. And yes, the racial struggle.

I normally don't like jukebox musicals, but I think something utilizing Bruce Springsteen's songbook would be amazing. Each song is a beautiful mini-story. If anyone has a chance find "Devil's Arcade" and "Last to Die" from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's latest album, "Magic." Plus classics like "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run" could work really well on stage.
EDIT- I also hope N2N actually does transfer. I am planning on making the trip down to see it at Arena in the fall/winter.

frogs, what a great concept! Springsteen's songs are a beauty in themselves, I agree. This definitely could be worked on by somebody out there...
jordangirl...I absolutely agree: DeYoung's version is the one I was thinking of (are there any others this worthy :I?, when I said HOND. It seems to have been a long time coming, with some readings, a concept album, but still waiting.
However, the music is really nice, and with a little "tweaking" it might just become a great production.

Limelight...was that a statement, or did you just forget to post...?
Yay! (bwaybabe2)!! Usually when Hunchback is mentioned on here it's everyone going gaga over the Disney version. I have no problem with Disney (heck, my sister works for them) but DeYoung's version is wonderful. I got to see its premiere in Nashville and LOVED it.
There had been talk of it doing a couple of months in Chicago this summer...but I haven't heard anything on that in a while... anyone know?

...was that the production where James Barbour played Frollo? I know he was involved with this project at some point.
What was your impression, as far as it translating well to Broadway?
I forget who played in it... I know the Tennessee Rep was the company. (All those things are packed in a box at my parents.)
I remember hoping it would head straight there. And there was a lot of buzz about it then. Sadly Disney started up about opening their version, so no one wanted to jump on board as a producer if Disney was doing theirs.

What a shame, uh? You would think Disney has enough projects already, why tamper with another production in the making. I am a huge Disney fan, but not EVERYTHING has to be done by them, really :{
Well, let's pray it will get to Bway, sometime, soon.

I would like to see John Van Druten's 1950 comedy, BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE, adapted as a musical. This play about a beautiful Greenwich Village witch who falls in love with a mortal man (and the 1958 Kim Novak, James Stewart film version), was the inspiration for the TV series, "Bewitched" and would make a delightful musical.
Also, Herman Wouk's 1955 novel, MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR, would adapt very well as a musical as the book is about a woman who wants to become an actress. In addition, the book is still a popular read today, especially for young women and the DVD of the 1958 film version starring Natalie Wood, is a popular seller.
If Disney must do more musicals, why not a musical adaptation of Their 1960 Hayley Mills hit, POLLYANNA.
Last but not least, my favorite novel, F. Scott Fitzgerald's jazz age classic, THE GREAT GATSBY. One of the greatest love stories of all time, "Gatsby" would make a fabulous musical, if a writer can be found who can adapt the novel properly to a musical setting.

I think they were working on Springsteen jukebox musical a few years ago, but nothing has come out of it yet.
