It is interactive at times. I almost don't to say too much as the surprise aspects are as always part of the magic of theater. I finally saw it today and it is great theater. Here's how we voted:
How did they handle the female lover voting for that one? Since Helena was Datchery and Rosa Budd was the murderer, did they just say "So... pick a man to be in love with Puffer!" ?
The whole show is not interactive. The audience (as you see from the results) determines each perf "whodunnit" and a few other endings. Dickens died before he finished writing Drood, so the conceit is to leave it up to the audience.
There are only a few moments when individuals are singled out. (and very few at that)

Dramamama, I have no idea if that was directed towards me... but I have seen Drood and completely understand the concept lol. I just didn't know that if a girl is picked as Datchery, she is ALSO eligible as one of the lovers. I just assumed that once someone was picked for something, they were out of the running for all other things (though I guess that only applies to the murderer, NOT Datchery).
No, not you BJH -- someone was asking about the show being interactive. I think I was responding to UCJRdude.

If one of the ladies is chosen as Datchery, she is still in the running to be one of the lovers because there's only three of them. But if one of the men is chosen as Datchery, he is left out of the lover voting.
To be fair, it is very rare that Helena is chosen as both. I believe it has only happened one time. I think the audience generally wants to give someone different a chance.
Hey, BJH-- yes, Helena was in the running also. That's how they did it, so we had two to vote for. It was hilarious and interesting, and I am glad the audience went for something a little different as it was very interesting to me plus I have a thing for crossdressing in shows!
According to the Drood Twitter account (@EdwinDrood54), Rosa Bud was the murderer at the 12/30 matinee and last night (1/1), and Puffer was the murderer at the 12/30 evening performance.
Tonight's performance was by far the most energetic I have ever seen, and during the lovers, the vamp was full of ad-libs and lasted at least twice as long as I've ever seen. At one point Will was busting a gut and said "I can't do this." and walked off to go sit down offstage. Fave ad-lib? Andy Karl calling Chita his "lamb vindaloo".
The crowd tonight was also amazing, so so into it! Wow! Took a friend to see it for the first time and she loved it.
1/2/13: Datchery: Bazzard Murderer: Helena Lovers: Puffer and Neville
Jealous to have missed the incest love again. Still laughing about last night, to be honest. The line I couldn't remember someone posted on Twitter, which involved Andy Karl doing a bit of a snake charmer dance and then telling Chita "I'm sure you could charm the pants off my pet cobra." Died!
Damn...that kid playing the Deputy certainly earns his pay! :)

Datchery: Bazzard Murderer: Helena, who won with 186 votes, I believe Lovers: Puffer and Durdles
Such a terrific show- it's been one of my favorites for a while, and I was so thrilled to see it. And so happy that Helena was voted murderer- Jessie Mueller's voice is beyond terrific.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I was at last night's show. It was my first time seeing it and I was totally blown away! I was so pleased with the results! There was a tie for Datchery between Puffer and Helena so The Chairman picked a woman to be the deciding vote. She chose Helena. There was also a tie between Deputy and Durdles for the Male lover and I got to be the deciding vote! I picked Deputy. It was such a fun night!
Datchery: Helena Murderer: Neville Lovers: Puffer and Deputy
