Murderer: Neville Datchery: Bazzard Lovers: Helena and Deputy
Chita, Will, and Peter were out. Allison was excellent as always, she's really come a LONG way in the part is truly wonderful despite being way too young. I can't believe I've seen her three times. I really hope Chita is ok.
Whoever was on for Jasper (I don't have my playbill) was truly, truly awful. His voice was fine, but acting wise he always seemed to be giving 75% and not truly going to the truly split personality level crazy or obsession the role needs. He also skipped most of the first verse of "A Man Could Go Quite Mad" just making frustrated noises. He also went up on his lyrics in "Both Sides of the Coin."
I LOVED Davie though. She doesn't mug as much as Betsy (whom I also loved). She seemed to play her as ditsier and a cliche melodrama "lost little girl" and her voice was stunning.
Samonsky...well...his accent truly came and went (and NOT in an intentional "this is a joke accent and is fake" way). He got laughs, but never took it to another level like Karl did.
Finally saw the show again tonight with the new cast! There were some wonky things coming from the orchestra tonight during a couple of numbers, but a great show tonight nonetheless!

Chita Rivera was still out, and Alison Cimmet was Puffer, so I finally got to see her! She was great, and has a lovely voice! She sang a lovely "Garden Path To Hell", and she sounded great on "Don't Quit..." She also was very funny and had a very convincing accent.
Peter Benson was out, and Nick Corley was on...he was so cute and funny! I actually prefer his Bazzard. He also had a nice voice too! And had some really adorable moments during his confession.
Erin Davie is FANTASTIC! Her ditzy take as others have reported really works, and really is consistent with both her characterization of Rosa, and as Deirdre Peregrine. Her voice is simply gorgeous, and her soprano soaring and strong when necessary. I wish she was on the recording! I need to hear her sing her confession. Her murderer's statement was hilarious, and there was no mugging. (She was able to find the comedy through the show without stealing focus from others on stage.) Her introduction was also very funny!
Adam Samonsky was very good too! Lots of laughs and good moments from him, and he too did not mug. Actually, it was so funny during his lovers' reprise tonight, I suppose Alison Cimmet was expecting him to keep "one-upping" her in the dialogue before they start singing, and she was waiting for him to say something, and when he didn't his response was "All I wanna do is sing..." To which everyone including her on the stage started cracking up! Funny moment.
Great responsive audience tonight! It was fun to be watching the show tonight...everyone got everything! Need to see the show again before it closes!
Cheers!

Finally saw the show Sunday - Alison was on as Puffer, Jenifer was on for Alison, Nick Corley was on as Bazard and I believe Justin was on for Nick. (not 100% sure, my playbill is at home)
I REALLY enjoyed the show - went in not knowing much about it, but thought it was very clever. However the sound at Studio 54 is TERRIBLE - I was in the last row of the rear mezz and my friend and I were struggling to hear anything.

Just tried to get tickets for next week and I see the discount is no longer in effect. Am I missing something somewhere? Is there any discount for the show this week? My 13 year old wants to see it one more time.....have seen it three times already and always had the SAME RESULTS! She sings the show around the house all day. Wish it could go on for months.

Though it kinda seemed Chita and even more so Durdles got a louder applause for the lovers.
I had hiptix, moved down to center rear mezz third row for the 1st act then at intermission asked an usher downstairs if there were any orchestra seats open and she brought me to 4th row last seat on the left side. It was great!

What a crazy, fun show. Eric Sciotto was a brilliant jasper. Cunning, sly, charming and sinister, a slow build to the madness and the creepiness, and well-sung to boot. What a great, versatile talent he is. I can't say enough how happy I am to catch his performance.
I loved Erin Davie's Rosa as well, and I've never heard her belt much, so hearing her really wail in that confession was a treat. She finds such a different humor in it than Betsy did, but she's definitely not inferior. The two are both wonderful, but very very different.
I could go on and on but I'll shut up for now. One week left, I'll be sad to see it go.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".

Would've loved to see Rosa as the killer, as even the cast was hinting to her as the murderer, but alas, she was in the number one spot.
In regards to the lovers, I was happy to see a new pair (I had Puffer and the Deputy last time), but the Deputy clearly won and Jim Norton called on a woman in the front row who was passionate about Durdles, to make the final call. I've heard of this happening quite a bit lately...is there anything to it?
I've heard of it a few times too, I think sometimes it's just that where you're sitting, it sort of distorts the sound and what you're hearing may not be the same thing as what they're hearing onstage.
It's worth noting though that Nicholas Barasch was out yesterday and if it was because of an illness, they may have tried to nudge it the other way either at his request or out of concern for his voice.
someone beat me to it for the voting, but I finally got to see this show today. Such a fun show and I really wish Roundabout had extended this further. it did appear that Jim Norton was trying to give an edge to certain characters/voters.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Late posting this but at the 2/27 matinee, Helena was Datchery, Puffer was the murderer, and Helena and Bazzard were the married couple. Allison Cimmet was Helena, and Nick Corley was Bazzard, so they were obviously very effective understudies!
Went to the show with my daughter 2/5/13 and it was the most energetic and fun I had seen yet. Janine Davita was on as RosaBud, and while I had been curious to see Erin Davie play the role, I was thrilled to see Janine play yet another part! I had seen her play Drood a few weeks ago and she was awesome. As Rosa she sang the hell out of the songs and had great interaction with the other cast members. I love her voice!
Everyone seemed to be a bit giddy and really enjoying their roles last night. Chita seemed to be having a great time.
This is really an amazing piece of entertainment and I am happy that they revived this show at this time. My 13 year old daughter has asperger's autism and she enjoys the literary aspect of the show as well as the element of surprise. This kind of show lends itself to the kind of mind she has, one that longs for routine and repetition but loves the novelty and excitement of something new at each viewing. Since it was out 4th time seeing the show, we watched the non-speaking characters quite a bit to see their reactions during various scenes. She loves noticing the nuances in their performances! Watching theater is a wonderful way for children with autism to learn about social interaction. Repeated viewings of the same show are like lessons in life for my daughter. We really love this show and the cast, and will miss it terribly! I'm going to see if we can get some inexpensive seats for the closing show!
