She is not a veteran of Broadway. And lacks what is needed for the part.
Thanks for the info, silent.

They host them when they think it's profitable and stop for 5 years (billboard) when they don't. News flash-everyone is a whore. And don't get me started on scripted Netflix shows qualifying for 'daytime emmys'. An absolute joke. Have 1 Emmy broadcast and do unaired categories if u have to for Christ sake. And while I'm at it, if a guest actor is really that good, they can be in the supporting category. Complete lunacy."
I don’t see what’s wrong with guest actors competing in the guest category. Most of them wouldn’t have a chance in supporting, especially since current rules say they have to be in less than half of the episodes.

Sutton, true...but if I guessed actors who I consider veterans I'd highly doubt Carolee Carmello, Audra McDonald, or Chita as Satine ahahahah

I can't wait to see Bernadette Peters in the role.

Eden is very much behind Karen's activism and decision to leave the show for significant change in the industry. I highly doubt she'd take her friend's old job. Although, I do think she'd be great.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought this.
I think by Broadway veteren they just mean someone who’s not making their Broadway debut.
I’m excited to find out who it is! Hopefully an announcement is soon

Just curious: Why ISN'T Phillipa Soo,a Tony nominee, ''a veteran of Broadway''?
She has 3 Broadway credits: ''The Parisian Woman,'' ''Amelie'' and ''Hamilton.''

I was thinking that Chita Rivera & Donna McKechnie would alternate in the role?

Because someone thought it would be adorable to throw some shade in her direction.

That is not a Broadway veteran. There is a pretty large gap between Broadway debut and veteran. A veteran is not someone with three credits on Broadway. She doesn't fit the description of the character anyways but I guess people can keep on guessing.
Doubt it's Eden though considering her friendship with Karen.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no definition of veteran other than in the military. And in the military, anyone who has served and been discharged (other than dishonorably) is a veteran. If we borrow that construction for Broadway, we would say that anyone who has a Broadway credit and lives to tell of it is a veteran. Of course, if you do a content analysis of the expression, you'll find that it is a creature of marketing, advertising, and PR folk, meaning that the term can be used fastly and loosely, in the sense that shows are routinely called Broadway bound, Broadway hits, Broadway blockbuster, etc etc etc. Since the original mention of the word in this thread seems to emanate from the great PR machine, anything goes.

Posted: 5/28/21 at 12:23amI feel like veteran here just means maybe they’re a chorus girl who has been in a ton of shows but not a “star” or “name.” But I’m curious to see who they choose. They’d be pretty insane to not pick a POC.

I heard/read some rumors that Deborah Cox would be the next Satine... she will turn 47 in July and for comparison, Olivo will be 45 come August.
Cox has only been on B'way twice, but she has appeared in other smaller-scale musical productions as well.

Posted: 5/28/21 at 7:57amThe point is less award shows make them more special, less awards per show make them more special. Hence only 4 acting Oscars per year. But capitalism exploits everything so we have more than we can sustain of everything, including awards shows. Happy 'getting plastered and not learning anything from the past year' weekend.

Posted: 5/28/21 at 9:37amThere’s no guest actor equivalent at the Oscars, that comparison is inherently flawed.

I LOVE Deborah Cox so much. I’m not sure if there is any truth to this rumor, but I would be SO happy to see her as Satine.

Doubt they’ll replace a woman of color with a white woman in this climate. I’d also venture Laura wouldn’t want to be in that position.
I like the Deborah Cox rumor. She’d be great!

Not to make this thread more of a "who will be Satine?" thing, but I've been thinking about Heather Headley in the role all week. Only 2 years older than Olivo.

Headley would be INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Also I’m hoping the Tony show airing has some kind of host. I would love to see it hosted by Julie Andrews!
Others I’d love to seeing leading through the night would be like Angela Lansbury. If it wasn’t too much of a task in prep.

Laura Benanti is a germaphobe. I don’t think we’ll see her back in a show until covid is truly a distant memory.
I find Cox uninspired. Also both times I saw her, her voice was worn out-cracking and she wasn’t hitting the money notes.
I think Headley would be marvelous. Teal Wicks, Jackie Burns, Betsy Wolfe or Natalie Cortez would be incredible as well.
