I don't feel bad for Frank at all. He's gotten himself a TV show out of it and he'll be kissing all this goodbye before you know it.
srg129, I don't thhink that the Billy chosen for the press night, or to perform for Clinton, Biden and Pelosi, whose name is David Alvarez, is a mediocre actor/singer. I bet you can't sing, act, or dance a fourth of what any of these boys can do. If you read the reviews of the critics, you'll realize that David Alvarez has a wonderful and serious career as an actor ahead of him.
BTW, Congratulaions to Billy Elliot the Musical for its 15 nominations.
I also feel bad for Frank Dolce - this boy is a great actor!

well sounds like you people dont know what your talking about! first of all frank happens to be EXTREMELY talanted! he was not put on opening night because they wanted him to do the shows the week before the opening so that he would be the one in the press. GO look it up in any newspaper and they talk about Franks performance! Second you have know room to say that David did a better job then Frank if you have only seen David in the show! Also David was not given the tony b/c Frank was absent for a few weeks while doing a pilot for a tv show, that has nothing to do with the tony it was the fact they never put the role down as being shared! And for your information Frank filmed Doubt in 2007 not this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While David was a great dancer, I second that he is a mediocre singer/actor.

broadwaybaby!, I have to ask... are you (or are you related to) Frank?
Pssh, just because they joined today and posted in a frantic, defensive manner with bad grammar shouldn't RAISE ANY KIND OF RED FLAG for you AT all!!!!
I have only seen Michael played by Frank but I have seen David play young Tommy at the Who's Tommy Reunion Concert. Kudos to both. Although a tony nod will be impressive on David's resume'

I am really pleased for David but I also feel deeply for Frank. I have seen both play Michael and they are both extremely talented young men.
Someone has definitely screwed up.
rich.hanson59, like I said before, the professional critics of this country and many others have a very different opinion with respect to David Alvarez's talent as an actor/singer. No matter how many times you say it, David Alvarez will make it... very very far....
Billy Wiz, I'm very suprised that YOU have not come to defense David Alvarez's talents. I am so sure that if the same has been said about Trent or Kiril you would have already said something, right? Why? Who pays you?

"Billy Wiz, I'm very suprised that YOU have not come to defense David Alvarez's talents."
I haven't come to David Alvarez's defence for two reasons. The first is that this is a thread about David Bologna. The second is that David Alvarez does not need me to defend his talents. His wonderful talents speak volumes by themself.
I agree that missed performances wouldn't have had anything to do with David getting nominated over Frank. And any arguments over "which is the better actor/performer" does not matter because it has nothing to do with the fact of one of the boys being nominated over the other.
The simple facts are:
1) David Bologna performed on Opening Night, he had the Opening Night credit. Therefore, he is the one who gets to be nominated. If you look at the press statements back from the Tony Administration, there is a note saying "all other roles are consistent with OPENING NIGHT credits."
2) Someone from the BILLY ELLIOT side neglected to confirm (or even submit) that the two "Michael" boys would share a nomination credit.
It was a mistake and that's that.
To remedy it, I think that the producers should give him a special shout-out when they win an award during the telecast. If David Bologna wins, it would show special class for him to ask Frank to join him on the stage.
And I would suspect that Frank understands that there was a goof and would also consider the nomination HIS as well, as does David.
100% true. They had the knowledge that none of the Michael's in England or Australia were nominated for their awards so it didn't occur to them that one would be nominated here.
And as much as I love the show and both the Michael's - I don't think either should have been nominated for this award. The part is just too small. Grandma's too and I love Carole Shelley playing it.
"The part is just too small."
What does that have to do with it?
Didn't Marilyn Cooper win best supporting for being onstage all of 7 minutes in "Woman of the Year"?
Or Betty Buckley in CATS, if memory serves me correctly (only in 2-3 scenes with one song?).
Plus, I would nominate David/Drink for "Michael" over Carole Shelley for "Grandma."
It's a very unfortunate mistake in that case.
I wonder then if most of the nominating committee really did see David. Some of them were bound to have seen Frank in the role.

Any chance the committe will ammend it's nomination and add the second child as a co-nominee? That is really the only way to right this situation.
I don't think so. It's not really the committee's fault. If they did amend it, Joel Grey wants a belated Tony nomination.

The Australian Mchaels just won a Green Room award in Melbourne.
