talking to a coworker today whos uncle works for the shubert org, and he said there was a clause in DEHs contract that would force them out when a certain production was ready for broadway in late 2019/early 2020. Anyone else know anything about this?
Sure, Jan.
Considering the show is still selling out to SRO crowds almost three years in, I don’t think they are shuttering any time soon barring a major surprise.
Anything is possible. And, I'm sure you would agree. That doesn't make any sense.
If anything, it could move to another Shubert owned theatre - if Shubert producers are eyeing that specific theatre for an upcoming show. That happens quite frequently.
Who knows?

100% agree it makes zero sense. That’s why I’m wondering if anyone has heard anything of the like. But why not give the other production the other Shubert theatre? Or is t because the music box is smaller

Walked by yesterday and the SD was WILD with young girls screaming . You could hear it blocks away . Looked like a teen boyband concert.
FAKE NEWS
STOP. LOCK THREAD.
Is there any show on the horizon that would even be remotely worth closing this for?

I'm sure that there is a stop clause in the contract. But, that doesn't mean the Shuberts are going to exercise it, and kick out DEH.
There could be a clause that another show would get that theater (which doesn't remotely mean such a clause would be exercised, only that it exists). There would never be a clause that the show had to close at that point.
Mods, please lock this thread.

There you go. Got their attention for you.
Yeah, and I heard from my best friend's aunt's friend's goat that Once on this Island is getting another revival. Don't believe everything you hear, especially if it seems absurd. Just Evan was told to do, you just nod and confirm.
LOL why are people demanding that this thread be locked? So strange.
This thread is great! Please don’t lock it....
Let’s guess what could be the show..... hmm. It has to be an obvious his so I’d say a HOLLER IF YOU HEAR ME revival
It’s true. Be More Chill is opening a second company there to make room for the enormous demand the show has.
It's based on a lie, it's stupid, and it's misleading. That is why.

Hi all, while there is likely zero chance that "Dear Evan Hansen" will close any time soon, we don't see any reason to close the thread just yet. From our perspective, and as others have politely pointed out, the OP's question probably comes from at least a nugget of contractual truth, even if the likelihood of it happening is practically nonexistent.
As other posters continue to share insight as to explain how contracts, closings, etc. work, we think that there is certainly value in communicating that knowledge to other folks. If at some point the valuable information ceases, and things get way off point, we will consider whether or not locking is appropriate. But, for now, we don't think we're there yet.
Have a great night!

If this was the first thread to be opened about something not really based in truth I'd understand, but this is just one in many. No need to get up in arms about it, maybe just don't bump it?
I'm sure there are some stop clauses in their contract, but as other said, even if they do have a "once this other production is ready to open here you are out", I doubt they would exercise it and move a sure hit for many years to come

Maybe Moby Dick or Titantic?

Moby Dick isn't even opening Off-Broadway until 2020
DEH was slated to play the Belasco, but instead, DEH previewed and opened at the Music Box, as Shuffle Along closed after 100 performances.
okay, let me add to the weirdness....what does block thread mean?

shows close and move all the time! maybe there WAS some clause in their contract. DEH can easily move to another venue to make way for something else.
although I doubt the truth to this rumor
so what does lock thread mean
