"I don't approve of "blackface" and "yellowface", so I must be a racist"

Your racism actually comes out when you screamed "yellow face!!" when the cover ellen used a line around her eye to pass for asian bar girl in the first scene.

YOU keep the separation in tact. Others don't even care.

You might think that you are noble about Asian people in this case, in fact you are not. They might think it is flattering if someone tries to look like them. They might be proud of who they are.

Edit: And who the hell are you to disapprove of someone honoring another race? Not everything is negative you know. Only you are.

Whitesplaining at its finest.

Who am I? I am a human being human being currently discussing with one of the worst kinds of racists out there....the blind ones.

Sir, you don't get to say what defines racism--you have no right to tell people to just "let it go"... settling time is over--this is the 21st Century and people aren't just going to deal with crap anymore.

Using makeup and pretending to be some other race is not flattering--it's offensive.

Do you even know the history of blackface and yellowface? And yes, it's just as offensive then as it is now.

"Others don't even care"

Have you even read this thread? Have you even stepped outside of your house? I can promise you that if more people outside of this message board were able to read your posts--let's say someone put all of your posts in an article....you would be blasted to no end.

Disgustng.

And with that said, I'm done. I'm done talking to a brick wall, who continuously makes a fool of himself with every post he makes not just on this thread, but the ENTIRE message board--causing people to not only block you, but to make (very catchy) songs about you. Yet, somehow, after all of this animosity towards you, you STILL do not find any fault in what you post! Lol, priceless. So ignorant...

The fact that I even had the nerve to delve into a discussion with you rubs off as bad on me, and I'm not letting that continue to happen.

Bye.

Well, choose the way you like to live. Scream "Beige face" to actors playing Piangi in Phantom your whole life long, or whatever racist word you made up for that.

Just remember, by doing that, you keep the separation in tact and you send out the message that those people are not worth as much as others.

It's sad Dave19 wastes so much time pretending to the be this dense, racist character.

"Racist" = any form of separation in your mind. People who use terms a blackface and yellowface are therefore per definition racist.

The saddest part is that they don't realize this.

Maintaining that separation is not good for any race. Mixing it and not making problems of using make up for a role is a good start. If you see the disappearance of that separation as a problem, it means you have personal race issues. Work on that first, then join the respectful and open minded people.

There would be so much more work for actors of any race if people like you didn't make such a problem of a bit of make up. We are people. Not red, black, yellow or white faces. The color of the skin in real life or the color of the make up in theatre does not matter. So stop it. Please. Today.

Wow, I'm here shaking my head, not believing that Dave believes what he's saying. If he does, I can't believe he's saying it out loud.

Jane, WOW, you think separation in races is good? You should be locked up.

People like you are the whole basis of the problem.

Any person with self worth can play anything. How can people have self worth with people like you around, constantly telling them they are less than others?

Nope, always reasonable.

So can you elaborate on this: Is it wrong for an african american actor to play the Italian Ubaldo Piangi in Phantom? People like Showface say it is, because it is racist towards the Meditteranean race. I say it does not matter as long as he has convincing Italian looks, speech or make up.

Why do you want to block opportunities for every race?

You do realize that's racist, right? Denying him the role because of his race, even if he is the best at the audition. Whatever he portrays does not matter.

Racism = any form of separation in your mind.

And yes, black reel awards and separate benches in the bus is all racism. Weather you like it or think it's necessary or not.

Thanks to my cis, white male privilege, I think this thread is HILARIOUS.

But, my friends of color, how do you put up with this?  HOW?

Dave19

And for everyone else reading this, it is quite simple really:

1. Is it ok for a white actor to play the Meditteranean Ubaldo Piangi including Italian look and speech in Phantom?

Yes/No

2. Is it ok for a black actor to play the Meditteranean Ubaldo Piangi including Italian look and speech in Phantom?

Yes/No

As long as you don't answer both questions with "Yes", you are part of the problem and the basis of racism in the USA.

I don't know, maybe by organizing Black reel awards to make sure equality doesn't come in?

Separation maintainers should be fined. Either way.

I wonder if Dave knows of the unfortunate case of white privilege in Western society

I wonder if he knows that his privilege is muddling his thinking

I ALSO wonder if he knows that Italian people are white, because Italian is not a race.

Ok so you have not read or understood anything.

Italian is the Mediterranean race.

You beat me to this! And that the concept of a Mediterranean race hasn't been in favor since the 1960s ... Along with many other ridiculous views on race.

Also regarding his use of the word Arabian: "A group of Arab individuals is made of Arabs, not “Arabics” or “Arabians.” The noun “Arabian” by itself normally refers to Arabian horses. The other main use of the word is in referring to the collection of stories known as The Arabian Nights."

Lord you are a piece of work.

Do you want to (excuse the expression) whitewash all races?   There is nothing wrong with NOTICING race and telling stories that are specific TO race.  But it IS insulting to dress people up as one distinctive race when there are people OF that race that should be playing the roles.   Did we always think that way? No, of course not.

But when we know better, we DO better.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
