Exactly where is this recording studio that used to be a theater? As someone interested in physical theater spaces I am officially curious.

According to one of the actor's tweets, it was at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. It's a sad state of affairs when it is cheaper (and, in the case, possible) to do a cast recording by flying a large cast and writing team halfway across the world than recording it locally.
Wow that's amazing and bizarre. Can someone post a link to these videos and pictures? I too am very interested in old theater spaces and their reuses so would love to see.
The cast stayed here in New York and recorded in the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center.

They didn't go to Moscow. They did it there ^ Same place as On the Town.
BroadwayMouth, nothing in your post is true.

Yep I found a story easily. Where on Earth did you hear the Moscow story?

It's still a fascinating space though that I hadn't previously known of.

That's hilarious. I think the cast member tweeted it as a joke, and I took it seriously. Sorry, everyone!
It is not uncommon for recording artists to travel to other countries to record albums to save money. This was clearly not the case here.
I knew I had seen the space before. On the Town definitely recorded there too I remember the pictures now. It looks more like a theatre without seats than a ballroom though.
I read once that the OBC of THE GRASS HARP had its orchestra recorded in some remote European country (much enlarged from what played on Broadway) and then the performers recorded their vocals in NYC.
It looks like the release date has been postponed until August 7th instead of July 31st per Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Broadway records still has the release date as July 7th. I preordered it so I would really mad if it is really delayed.
The digital album may be available to download from the Broadway Records store early like they did with The Visit cast album but it looks like the CD won't ship until August 7th.

I'm cool with that. I buy all my albums on iTunes these days anyway.
I prefer the physical CD especially since my entire cast album collection is in physical cd's

When I preorded my copy Broadway records was just selling the physical copies. And that's what I wanted. Ugh I've already waited so long for this album
It's a week later, people. No need to throw a tantrum.
Exactly
I just got Something Rotten & The Visit. I have a gazillion cd's and some I never even listened to. I can wait.
I'm not throwing a tantrum. I sort of figured this would happen as it seems postponing the release by a week or so is pretty common practice for Broadway Records. They always seem to announce a release date that turns out to be closer to the digital release date and hold off on the physical release. They just did this with The Visit so I'm not surprised.
I wasn't talking about you, Cats. I was talking to whoever said they'd be "really mad" if this was released 6 or 7 days after originally planned.
People should be grateful that it was even recorded.
Thanks for bringing everything into perspective, Roxy.
You are quite welcome.
One remains moist in anticipation.
That's a bit of a stretch on my end, but excited for sure.
