I don't see it, but I'll take your word for it. I will say that I don't like it when shows record before previews. In this case it's probably better that they did as everyone is expecting this to fold quickly after opening and there probably wouldn't be enough time to record and get it out before it's gone, but generally changes are made to the score during previews and I don't enjoy having a cast album that doesn't reflect the final version of the score. It also doesn't help when it comes time to license the show and there are discrepancies between the libretto and the recording.
Also keep in mind that it'll be opening only less than a week before Tony Nominations come out, so that would also determine the show's fate depending on its potential nominations.
^Only because the timing is wrong and it's not the 1980s and the audience for this kind of show just doesn't exist any more unless it's Phantom or a revival of Les Miz or Miss Saigon. I don't think it's a bad idea and some of the music is lovely.

That's a shock to me. Is there a board discussing it? I haven't been hearing much about this show good or bad so it's a surprise that it's suddenly expected to close immediately.
It is the BWW tradition of picking out a show at random and than trumpet to the heavens that it will close immediately. It happened with Memphis which had the audacity of not only running but winning a Best Musical Tony plus a London edition.
A lot of people had egg on their face over that one.Do not believe everything you read here.
Im really pleased that there will be a recording for this! Im really looking forward to seeing it in May, and if Tam gives even half the performance that he gave in City of Angels then i know im going to love it!
I too am glad there will be an album. No matter how the ticket sales go, or even how "good" a show is they all deserve to be preserved on CD for anyone who cares for the material, and to give it a chance to touch many more beyond its Broadway run.
Re your snotty remark Cats, there was a photo on their website showing the cast in a recording studio with a caption stating they had recorded it " 4 few weeks ago"
Blame the website. It must be nice to be perfect all the time. Sorry we can all be up to your high standards of perfection.

I'm of a mind that everything should get a recording (beyond the bootlegs) and I'm still upset about The Apple Tree never being recorded with that amazing revival cast.
Those clips that you saw of the cast in the recording studio were for demos of a few songs to use in promotion. They will make a decision about a cast recording after the show is up and running. I saw the sitzprobe last week and the score is GORGEOUS... really excited about this show. It is epic to say the least with a huge cast and 18 piece orchestra.

I'm a little out of it it seems. Other than the fact that Doctor Zhivago came out in the mid-1960s, why are people so sure that this show will flop or will be of bad quality?
More than a few songs were recorded. I have 8 tracks for a demo, but each track was numbered, with the highest number being 13 (there are 19 songs in the show). Maybe the cast recording was already done? It's not required that they wait until after opening.
dear god, what a festival of misinformation. the broadway cast has not "recorded more than a few" songs. any eight-song demo that exists would be a relic from the australian production in 2011. and there are more than 19 songs in the show.
Well, all I know is the info that was included in a pocket given to me by a producer, which included a list of 19 songs and a demo of 8 of them. Sorry if that information was incorrect.
