They didn't record the "Watch the Moon" reprise. That one got left out. Probably because the letter is partly being red over it so it would have mostly been a dialogue track. There was also a brief reprise of "Who is She?" that didn't make it on to the album but that's about all they left out. The major reprises are all there. I didn't think they would include the reprise of "In This House" but they did. Sometimes I wonder how they arrive at these decisions.
Awwwww boo. That Watch the Moon reprise was my favorite moment of the show- for some reason I was really touched by it. Bummed it isn't on there!
Oh well- otherwise I am very happy with this recording! I think everyone sounds great- especially Tam Mutu. I actually like him on the recording much more than I liked him live.
The "Watch the Moon" reprise was very pretty and it would have been nice to have more of Lora Lee Gayer on the recording but the song itself was fairly short and the letter was more the focus of that scene so I can sort of understand why they left it off the recording. Personally, I would have favored that song and an extended version of "Two Worlds" over the bonus tracks, but again that's so minor compared to everything that we did get. It's a fantastic recording.

I got the shipping confirmation email today. I'm curious to see if this is a show that will be better appreciated as an album. Will people be clamoring for a revival in a few years?
I doubt that will happen.
Maybe John Doyle could do a scaled-down revival someday...
This show will not be revived anytime soon, if at all.

Yay! I came home to find my new Doctor Zhivago CD. I'm listening to it now.
They all get revived eventually.
Which is the exact opposite of the truth, of course. Relatively few shows get revived, especially quickly closing flops.
Especially flops with universally putrid reviews.
Certainly 20 or 30 years from now, perhaps in a time when musical drama is back in fashion and satire is out, someone will tackle Doctor Zhivago again. I don't believe the material is that bad.

I think I need to listen to it a few times before I'm fully used to it. It's a very good recording but it loses something when you're not in the theatre having them belt it out in your direction. "Who Is She" is definitely a number that sounded better in person. "Now" is good but I wish it had more... oomph. Kelli and Tam's voices are also layered a little oddly. I think of everyone, Paul Alexander Nolan comes across best on the album. That is, his numbers are translating the best compared to how they sounded live. Blood on the Snow sounds really, really good. I wish the album better captured how good Tam Mutu sounded in person. He has a lot of good moments here but I feel like he was more consistently strong when he was actually performing. Kelli Barrett sounds really lovely. Lighter. Tam and Kelli sound like they're singing a little differently for the album while Nolan is just going for it. "Ashes and Tears" is an exception. I think he sounds fantastic on that song.
I'm just so happy to finally be able to hear high quality versions of these songs again. Now if only I could get Spotify to realize I downloaded it. If anyone knows how to do this, please PM me.

The show was nowhere near as bad as the critics said it was. My wife & I enjoyed it.Unfortunately, many people still listen to them instead of making up their own mind when seeing a show.

Not that it would have been a hit but some people who wanted to see the show didn't have the chance to see the show in between when it opened (after the reviews came out) and when it closed.

Do you honestly believe that the majority of the general public listens to the critics? Especially considering how several shows such as Grease, Les Miserables, Beauty & the Beast, Aida, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, The Color Purple, Mary Poppins, Rock of Ages, Memphis, Motown: The Musical, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Finding Neverland manage to overcome bad (or at least mixed) critical reviews
If that was the case, then the recent Broadway productions of Finian's Rainbow, Ragtime, The Scottsboro Boys, Side Show, and Honeymoon in Vegas would all still be running and On the Town would be a HIT.

I listened to the cast album and it was so... meh. Like a knockoff of a knockoff of Les Miserables.

I agree that it doesn't sound like Les Miserables but I don't think it was trying to sound like Les Miserables.
I don't think there's anything in the score that sounds particularly like Les Miz but with it being a musical romance set during a war and a revolution the comparison is inevitable. I wish people would give Zhivago the chance to stand on its own without comparing the two but it is what it is.
I got my CD today. The packaging is really nice and it's a wonderful recording of course. There was a point there after the show closed where I was starting to think I may never hold an original Broadway cast recording of Doctor Zhivago in my hands so it was pretty exciting to actually hold it and be able to appreciate how lucky we got.
I've been trying to find it on iTunes, but it's not there yet. Would anyone be able to post a link as soon as it's available?

Does anyone have any contacts as to why the cast album isn't on Itunes yet? It's past 5 o'clock.
It's Broadway Records. Is anyone surprised?

It actually has to do with iTunes not us. Ever since they started launching Apple Music, they have been up to a week or more behind on getting albums up. They are still playing catch up, unfortunately. It's been up on our website for digital download since July 31st.
