I can see where you are coming from saying that Velma is bad but I always thought that the government of Chicago is what all the main characters are working against. Of course if you were thinking who is most morally wrong, a lot of the Chicago characters would probably make the list.

well to clarify ... i guess velma really isn't that bad so much as no one in the show save the hunyak is actually good or redeaming... its the reason i really like the show
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

I would have said Sweeny Todd as well. Just because youre rooting for the character, doesnt make him the good guy. I mean towards the end he just starts killing everyone willy nilly :)

Erik, and Javert, and Madame Morrible (Horrible Morrible, for the book readers) and Amber von Tussle (I like her better than Velma- esp. in "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now")

I like Benny (RENT). I just love the character!!
Also, Macavity (CATS). I don't know if you would call him "bad" or not, but Judas from JCS.

Javert, Chauvilin, and Orin.
David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

I don't think I'd say Judas is the bad guy in JCS either.. I'd give that honor to Caiaphas or even King Herod toward the end.

Oy. My vote goes to the entire cast of Assassins (does that count?)

Dr. Parker in Bat Boy
Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd
The Giant in Into the Woods
The last two, while technically the "bad guys", have reasons for their actions, and are more developed than normal bad guys. Dr. Parker, to a lesser extent.

I don't think I'd really say there is a definitive "bad guy" in ITW. I mean, the witch is a "bad guy"..the wolf is a "bad guy"... but the wolf dies, and the witch becomes not so bad.

Count Carl-Magnus Malcom from "A Little Night Music"
Gaston-Beauty and The Beast(Kinda similar if you think about it)
The Wolf-Into The Woods (But come on is he really bad or just hungry?)
Austin and Lee in True West (but them being the same person and victims of situations is a whole other topic that I just might start if I feel I have the time and strength)
The Dentist in LSOH

Javert in Les Miserables
if this works...Zoser in AIDA (he kinda pushes radames into marring amneris because it will give him power. that kinda makes him a bad guy.)

-Erik (although I don't think the Phantom was truly a "bad guy"...just misunderstood.)
-Javert (not that "bad" either...his fatal flaw was his inflexible ideals, that's all)
-Mrs. Lovett (gotta love them pies!)
-Mrs. Meers (insanely hilarious)
~Rosalynn

Judd Fry - I'm really surprised no one has said him. The guy who played him in the last b'way production (and won a Tony) was great!
Plus he's a great role for a baritone to play because "to call my own" is a GREAT song for acting/singing.
