I like how New York cabaret star Miles Phillips sang Tevye on this Stage Stars recording, the link has samples.

Bestie, seeing as how Christian Bale swore off musicals after Newsies, I doubt he'd be up to this.
Danny Burstein will be amazing.
At least there has been only one Fiddler production on Broadway in the last 23 years. Can't say the same for Gypsy, Follies or La Cage. I loved the last production of Fiddler and if this is up to the same standard Sher had for South Pacific and Piazza, I'd easily see this Fiddler as well.
Love the idea of Burstein headlining this show, he's a master of his craft.

Kevin Kline and Meryl Streep will play all the parts. Barty got the idea when he saw Meryl play a Jewish man in Angels In America.
"And yet, when the time comes, all those saying 'pass' will be at the first preview."
Trust me, no. Some can revisit the same show over and over, some get their fill.
Ok, so they'll wait til it's on TDF.

Danny Burstein would be an inspired choice! If he doesn't end up getting cast, I'll be quite disappointed thinking about what could have been.

I can honestly say that I have loved Burstein in everything I've seen him in. He's truly one of New York's greatest actors. This is amazing news.

I'll probably see this show (again) this summer at Surflight on LBI,NJ. But the thought of Danny Burstein would be enough of a draw to get me back in too.

I agree about Burstein, though I wonder if the title alone is enough to fill seats.
I'm fascinated by the mention this production will be based on the original conception and choreography by Robbins. The choreography doesn't surprise me, but the concept? I wonder if this will be like Sher approach to AWAKE AND SING, which was in the same house as the original production, with the same scenic design - though with changes to how the set was employed, and the staging, of course.
If so, a very interesting challenge and one I'd only give to Sher.
I personally don't feel the time is right for a revival of FIDDLER, but who am I? think Burstein is very right for this, but nothing immediately excites me about this.
I will say, to entertain this "massive star" rumor... if Bette Midler went full circle and played Golde....THAT I would not miss.

THAT would be amazing! I believe her when she says she's not doing a musical, but perhaps if she didn't have to headline it? (It would distort the balance of the show, of course, without another star.)
Honestly, I love the show. And I think Danny Burstein would be fantastic as Tevye.

Isn't he doing My Fair Lady too?
Patti would be great as Yenta
Paul Giamatti as Tevye
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Golde
Kristen Johnston as Yente
Sort of on-topic, but I would recommend the new book WONDER OF WONDERS about Fiddler. It goes into a lot of detail about the original stories by Sholem Aleichem and the many stage productions and the movie of Fiddler. After reading Patti LuPone's book, I wasn't surprised to learn what an a**hole Topol was, but he gets savaged pretty badly in this book, too.

Really looking forward to "Fiddler". Bart Sher should give it a brilliant production, hopefully on a par with "South Pacific." I don't understand the need for star casting when the show itself is a star--in this case, especially so. It's a beloved, classic Broadway musical and I think the most important element is to do it with the right cast that can bring it alive again. I hope it's a faithful and not re-imagined production.
