I will be disappointed if FINIAN'S RAINBOW doesn't open in the Fall. The score is so wonderful, especially "Look to the Rainbow" which is often omitted when discussing the songs. And the St. James is not as large as some of the NYC theatres. GYPSY with LuPone played to consistently less than sold out houses and must have broken even to have lasted a year. And the Times gave the ENCORES! production such a rave review. It is time for a revival, with a recording too.
Maybe it's just me, but I knew "That Old Devil Mood" and "Look to the Rainbow" prior to purchasing the cast recording. I assume others would know some songs too which I think is a plus when some people are deciding whether or not to see a show. I can see why that might not be enough though.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

she said she wasn't playing the ditzy blonde, but maybe she's playing the dumb blonde.

It didn't. They might have recouped if they had actually lasted the full year they were supposed to, but they closed two months early and ended up not recouping.

Well, I for one hope it opens if only for the cast to make a new recording of the score. And hopefully, the majority of the Encores! cast will be the ones doing the recording.
FR is no means an arena filling type of show, but the score is gorgeous. And the book was so timely, as I learned from watching the Encores! production.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that this show gets revived. Updated On: 7/12/09 at 12:48 AM
Well if it does come in, ( the site which shall not be named) is now saying Woody will be played by either Jarrod Emick or Andy Karl. Both are a bit boring, but I think either could do an adequate job.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I'm not meaning to go on a rampage about Jarrod Emick. But he's got a great voice, a lot of charisma and might be a decided plus to the revival, if and when it happens. A star-making performance? No. A welcome addition to the ensemble? Yes.
I won't believe that Jarrod Emick is in anything until I actually see him set foot on the Broadway stage after opening night.

Not 100% sure if this was Finian's Rainbow or not, but I thought I'd share.
I saw James Snyder at the Marquis stage door, and he was talking to one of the doormen, whom (who? I've never gotten it right) I am friends with. James was saying that he came in for the day to try to get this show that was supposed to open at the St. James, but it's not going to anymore.
I wasn't in the position to get more info, but that's what I heard. Could've been cool though!
