Who do you think is the most memorable part in Seussical?
To anyone who has seen the school version of Seussical: 1. Can they tell me the differences between the Broadway version and the school version? [If there is any...] 2. Curtain call 3. Which song you came out singing?
The most memorable parts for me, as I have only seen the national tour with Cathy Rigby, was when Cathy did her improvisation bits. Those were very funny. MTI does not list a school version so if there is one I don't know of it and I came out singing quite a few songs... "Biggest Blame Fool", Alone In The Universe", "Amayzing Mayzie", "Solla Sollew" and "Having a Hunch". The reprise of "Solla Sollew" was also especially touching, but the best song by far is "Notice Me Horton".
I was in this fun show last year, but have never seen a professional production. MTI lists their version as the "Original Broadway Version" and, as far as I know, this is, for the most part, true. There are some changed lyrics here and there are some verses cut and/or moved around that don't match the CD, but other than that, it's pretty much right on.
Our curtain calls was: 1: Whos/Cadets/Circus Acts 2: Mr. & Mrs. Mayor/Gen. Schmitz 3: Bird Girls 4: Wickersham Brothers 5: Sour Kangaroo/Mayzie la Bird/Gertrude McFuzz 6: Jojo 7: Horton 8: Cat in the Hat
The main song I'll never forget is the opening, "Oh, the Thinks you can Think." Its really a knockout!
I know the show, but haven't been able to see it yet. A theatre company about 50 miles from us did it last season, and from what I understand, it was very well-recieved- especially by school group who attended.
I love the entire cast recording, but my favorite songs are "Having a Hunch", "Alone in the Universe", "Solla Sollew", "All For You" and "Biggest Blame Fool".
I'm in the process of tyring to convince the theatre company I work for to put Seussical on our season for 06-07, so if anyone has done the show and has any feedback that might help me, please let me know.

I did this show during the summer, it was the BEST show I've ever been in. It was incredible. There are so many numbers in which the ensemble is involved that everyone gets there moment to shine.
Solla Sollew reprise was making us all cry. Beautiful.
SEUSSICAL was revised three times in professional productions since Broadway.
There was pre-Broadway in Boston. Changed dramatically for Broadway and cut the song "The Lorax."
The "Cat" on Broadway changed three or four times. Cathy Rigby closed with the show. She then took it on the road and changed it up a LOT for the first national tour. "A Day For the Cat In The Hat" was cut. Lots of lyrics were changed - even some of the score. Scenes were cut, shortened, moved, etc.
Then a non-Equity tour followed a year or two later. Lots of staging changes, lyric changes, and some scene cuts/moves/shortening.
According to a friend who did the show, it's not the Broadway version. It's the non-Equity tour version, but they include "A Day For The Cat In The Hat" as optional. And there are two different scores: one for a male Cat and one for a female Cat.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

1) Ensemble (the Who's) 2) Cat's Helpers/ Bird Girls 3) Bit Parts- Vlad Vladikoff, the Bailiff, etc. 4) JoJo's parents 5) General Schmitz 6) Sour Kangaroo 7) Mayzie 8 ) JoJo 9) Gertrude 10) Horton 11) The Cat in the Hat
I think that's everyone.
EDIT: Apparently the number 8 and the ) make a smiley face with sunglasses! Updated On: 11/16/05 at 09:55 PM
I was in this over the summer. Fun show. Our curtain call was kinda messed up. Mr. and Mrs. Mayor bowed before the Whos. What's with that? I love Solla Sollew. Such a beautiful song!

She gets to sing a couple of gospel-esque numbers, and audiences always seem to remember those.
However, if you have a good JoJo, he can run away with the show, as talented child actors tend to do. Audiences love cute children.
Also, if your Cat in the Hat is the type of person that's really good with audience banter and improvisation, he or she can easily run away with the show.
Then again, Gertrude always stops the show with All For You.
I truly this is one of those shows where everyone gets a moment to shine. Exceot for maybe Horton. It's one of the central roles, but it's the least "showy" of any of the leads. In order for Horton to have an impact (as Kevin Chamberlin did) it HAS to be well-acted, because he doesn't get any big vocal moments.
Saw the original cast. I loved it. However it needed a strong central performance from the Cat in the Hat. It didn't get it and the show seemed to lack a center. With such a performance the show could have been much better. As it was it was still good but a bit diffuse.
YAY! I just finished intern directing a prouction of Seussical! We had a two weekend run with 12 shows... nine of them sold out. The cast was 75 kids and they were AWESOME!!! The great thing about the show is it's very creative and the actors and really take their character in about 400 different ways.
Our VERY last show.... the egg fell out of the nest and went rolling down the stage... and Horton had to chase it. Good times... that's childrens theater!
Everything in this room is *eat*able. Even I'm *eat*able. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies. ~Willy Wonka

I don't understand why Mayzie kind of disapears for the rest of the show after she goes to the circus... where does she go? I kind of forget about her...
Memorable, well, there were some nice moments in the show. I really enjoyed David Shiner (spelling? I probably got it wrong) as The Cat in the Hat. For me, the best moment in that show that blended theatricality and the Seuss books was "Biggest Blame Fool in The Jungle of Nool." The best, or most humable song to me was "How Lucky You Are." I sing that a lot still. Seussical is a flawed piece of great musical theater. The book is weak and any bit of gray is covered up by cheesy yellow. If there were darker elements I think it would have survived a while longer.
