Yawn"
of course there has been no genocide of israelis (though that is the explicitly stated goal of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, etc), but reacting to their slaughter with a yawn could not more perfectly encapsulate how pathetic and soulless so much of palestinian activism has become. WHICH IS WHAT I HOPE GIANT CONFRONTS, and having now heard from real life people who have seen it, i am certain it does. cant wait.

Yawn yourself---- the slaughter of Israeli children count just as much as the slaughter of Palestinian children--- and all Israel is asking for is survival--- the terror campaign aimed at Israel is genocide of the Jewish people ----and no matter how much you want to yawn--- that is what is happening- and has been happening since Israel became a state--- and if you don't know that- and want to ignore history--- keep yawning and spouting anti-semitic rhetoric.

Yawn at your idiotic accusations of antisemitism when Israel is the one committing genocide. The entire world sees it. Criticism of genocidal behavior is not antisemitism. Stop lying and accusing people of this when we just want the kids not be slaughtered by Israel. You're not a victim.

Once again - it's not a genocide. The numbers prove that. The fact they inform them in advance of where they're bombing proves that. The fact that in 2.5 years only less than 10% of the population, including militants, are dead proves that.
israel's government is far from perfect. But facts matter. And it's not a genocide.

Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran-- and theterror organization are the true victims. Israelis are engaged in genocide-- but no genocide is being perpetrated on the Israeli Jews--- yeah, right!"
The entire world is just asking Israelstop killing children. And you still make it all about you."
Have you freed Palestine yet? How's that working for ya?

Somehow the Dumpster-firing of this thread has made me lose all enthusiasm for actually seeing the play.
There is still a play, right?

A Palestinian state cannot be established until Israel is accepted as a state by the Arab nations--until then- Israel will continue to fight the terrorists- and anti-Israel forces-- in the region for survival. You can't have a Palestinian state on your borders if they are going to launch terror attacks and threaten your survival. And Israel is not engaged in genocide--- as always- the real perpetrators of genocide turn the tables and accuse others of what they are actually engaged in. The explicit call of many nations in this region has been to eradicate the state of Israel and all of its inhabitants--- and that has been going on since its inception. Open a history book- for once. And why is the entire world not asking the terror groups to also stop killing innocent Israeli Jews? This is a terrible situation- and until Israel is accepted as a legal nation-- it will not stop.

Who is not being civil? We are discussing very important issues and ways of looking at a very controversial situation. If you are not interested in the discussion-- that is fine-- just ignore it.

If people in this thread are not talking about how these issues relate to Rosenblatt’s play then they are saying the play doesn’t matter. They’re saying that they don’t care if an author struggles with the complexity of Jewish identity in connection to Israel and antisemitism. They don’t need a play to dramatize these issues because they already have them figured out. They would probably prefer there not to be a play at all.

This show is supposedly about anti-semitism- I am seeing it in April-- but I don't understand why a discussion of the issues presented, dissected and discussed in the play seems to turn people off-- if these issues do not interest you- that is fine-- but a lot of people are interested in these issues and a discussion of different points of view is always a good thing- if done respectfully and with tact.

This thread got reckless and now I wished I had chosen to see Giant instead of The Wild Party this evening.

If I remember correctly, it ran 2:20 from curtain up with intermission at the start of previews. Don’t know if they’ve cut anything since it’s a West End transfer.

Saw this tonight. Started around 7:35, walked out of theater at 9:57.
Lithgow is putting on a tour de force of anti-Semite wrapped around like a Tucker Carlson “you are the one who should apologize!”
This will live in my head for a while.

Don’t let this thread discourage you. It’s an excellent play. Lithgow is fantastic.

Spirited debate can be a good thing because it does mean the play is doing its job. But the fact of the matter is that the debate (as they so often do here) quickly devolves into ad hominem name calling and value judgements and therefore is no longer productive.
I highly recommend the play, if anything, for Lithgow’s terrifying and towering performance. We don’t know how many more of these we will get in his lifetime and so missing the opportunity would be foolish.

The fact this thread has been allowed to go so far off the rails like this just proves the Mods pick and choose when they do their jobs.

Oh- so respectfully discussing different points of view - which a new play is explicitly about- is going off the rails? OK-- lets only talk merch-- and stage door signings--but it is going off the rails to dig deep into the plays themes and respectfully discuss that--- you have a very different perspective on "going off the rails" than I do.

Caught this on Thursday night and agree Lithgow is the main draw. It’s a great production of a decent play.
It’s a character study and the subject is very interesting. I just think it ran a good 20/25 minutes too long and was spinning its wheels by the end. You know Dahl is not going to change Ebenezer Scrooge style in one afternoon, and so you’re left watching him have the same heated exchanges with the other characters again and again.
Again, a really decent play. It anticipates that its audience is going to have very strong views on the issues addressed, and does a good job challenging the audience to hop into the grey area and join the conversation.
This will be a night of theatre I’ll be talking about for years to come, and will gladly applaud Lithgow when he picks up that Tony.

I don’t catch the last line of the play after his fiancée says something about a fall wedding. Anyone?

Here's the West End text, I don't remember it being different on Broadway but it might have been a bit:
Liccy: ... We should get married in the autumn.
Roald: Yes.
Liccy: Winter latest.
Roald: Yes.
Lights down.
End of play.

Wow, John Lithgow totally floored me. Crazy performance. The note they give with the playbill saying what's quoted verbatim in the play, I just couldn't believe it oh my god.

Yes. Especially after he wins his Tony. But if you thought prices were high now though…
