As much as I hope to catch Bette, my two kids couldnt care less, so for better seats, and a bit cheaper...we're seeing Donna Murphy in August.

I'll also be at her first performance (which happens to be the show's first performance after the Tonys, so the energy will be interesting).

Might try and catch her during Bette's first vacation in. I'm assuming there will be a discount available as some of her dates have lots of availability.

Seeing her in November and I'm very excited. I've loved her since Star Trek: Insurrection but I've never seen her on stage.

Yes, I don't care for Bette so I purposely bought them on a night when Donna is performing. I just adore her and cannot wait to see her take on the character. You are not alone!!! ![]()

Bette has definitely overshadowed Donna's involvement in this production - but I am deeply envious of those that get to see Donna. While she doesn't have the same star power/name recognition, in an alternative reality she definitely has enough personality, acting chops and voice (and with the latter two - more so than Bette to be honest) to hold a revival on her own shoulders.

Nope, you are not the only one! I am so excited to see her on her second Tuesday performance in June. I'll be seeing Bette's first performance after the Tonys and then a week later catching Donna in it. I cannot wait to hear and see her sing that score! And her sassy line readings!

Calling it now. People will think she is better than Bette.

I tried to get tickets to see Bette, but didn't have the $550+ needed to secure a ticket. So I'm seeing Donna Murphy at the end of June. I'm excited to see the production, and having seen Donna Murphy previously on Broadway, I'm sure she'll be great.

I actually love that they cast someone so completely different than Bette as her Tuesday and vacation replacement. It's impossible to compare them. I do not think people will think one person is better than the other. They will bring different things to the role.

Even if "people" think Donna is better it will not touch the people actually buying tickets to see this show. If anything, buzz that Donna is "better" will help sell the Tuesday night tickets since Bette's are already sold out far in advance. Bette is still the event to see. Now, will it cause any Sunset Blvd level "producers post the great reviews of the alternate and piss off the star" type feelings? Maybe.

I was really warring with myself over whether to see Bette or Donna. In the end, even thoughI like Donna more, I chose to see Bette so I wouldn't be missing the theatre event of the season. A shallow reason, I know, but the buzz around the show was my main reason for seeing it. If they offer a better rush deal than $47 SRO for Donna's shows, I would happily see it again for her, but I doubt they will. I too am envious of the people seeing Donna. I bet she'll be outstanding!

I wonder if they'll use Donna in the Tony Awards performance or for any other press.

Nope. She is our invisible star. Bette is their visible and soon to be Tony awarded star!

I guarantee there will be some level of press given to Murphy once she begins performances--particularly in light of her compelling personal narrative, and how it mirrors Dolly's journey in the show. I'd expect to see one or more feature articles.
