"This started before COVID, but now it seems to be back on — and that is that they are building a Broadway version of Hocus Pocus," says Kirschner, who created and produced the 1993 Halloween film and also serves as a producer on its upcoming sequel.
He tells podcast host Robert Peterpaul, "I just want to pinch myself, and I'm just afraid that I'm going to be 9 years old and on a little league field again… But it's just so wonderful just to stand back and watch all of this."
"It's not just me. It's so many people that brought Hocus Pocus [to life] — from [director] Kenny Ortega and Mick Garris' script and John Debney's score and Bill Sandell's production design, and now a whole new generation are working on it," Kirschner, 67, says.

Modern culture is a dog endlessly eating it's own sick.
I cannot find the video now, but one surfaced years ago of from a cabaret night by Noel Carey. He wrote an opening number to a Hocus Pocus musical and it was absolutely incredible. The number was called "Younger" and sung by the Sanderson sisters (in the cabaret: Bonnie Milligan as Winnie, Natalie Walker as Sarah, Abby Goldfarb as Mary). I don't know know if he has since written more of a Hocus Pocus musical, but the powers that be for this Broadway adaptation should absolutely get a hold of him. The lyrics were awesome (In any case, I'm starting a campaign now for Bonnie as Winifred! haha)

I CAME HERE TO SAY CAROLEE FOR WINIFRED ALSO!!!!
Love the suggestions on here but may I posit that the Everyday Rapture trio would make great Sanderson Sisters?

I’d pay top dollar. Get Sherie back on stage ASAP.
That really would be perfect casting.
Would also love to see Carolee as Winnie, Beth Leavel would be divine as well.
However my dream trio has always been:
Patti LuPone, Mary Testa and Annaleigh Ashford.
Highly doubt that Patti would do a musical like this, but I cannot imagine anyone else/anymore more perfect for Mary and Sarah than Testa and Ashford. At the very least I hope to the casting gods they find their way into being involved.
And while we’re at it, Hoffman must have a cameo as the Devil‘s wife…. simply imagine the ad lib’s.
This has regional and community theatres all over it. I don't know if the end goal is Broadway, but I can see this being developed, and then everyone and their cat will be doing this for the fall around Halloween.
I wonder if Disney is attached as a producer? They didn't attach themselves to Sister Act or Hunchback.
Disney was indeed attached to Sister Act and Hunchback.
They were not a lead producer on Sister Act, but are credited as "produced in association with Disney Theatricals." That was a Touchstone film, so it makes sense that they wouldn't want the big Disney logo above the title. And they are absolutely credited as "produced by" and "developed by" Disney Theatricals for Hunchback.

It’s 2022. I think a more accurate casting would look like Taraji P. Henson, Ann Harada and Rachel Ziegler.

I'm not so sure. I think I'm a little over all these Disney movies being made into stage shows.

I imagine any production would be more in the Newsies/White Christmas idea of "we do it on Broadway to get a version we can license." I can see it being a big show with regionals and schools in the fall. I can't imagine it sustaining a run on Broadway that's not just something like August-November.
