Exactly!  One thing I seem to notice since I've been researching this (although it could just be another coincidence) is that some of the unpredictable effects are *because* of the attempts at prediction.  That is, people say "Tuesdays tend to be light!" and so a bunch of people show up for the next Tuesday.  Then, "Wow Tuesday was SWAMPED" and then people stay away from the Tuesday after that.

IF we decide to do this, I think I'm going to go ahead and give myself an out; show up, see how many people there are, and if I'm more than 10th in line (say) just give it up and enjoy NYC.  :)

It's definitely a toss up. That's why it's so frustrating. When I got in through the cancellation line it was a Saturday and I assumed it was going to be a nightmare, being a weekend night. But 10-15 people got in to the matinee and 6 alone got lottery tickets for the evening performance, plus I don't know who many for the other tickets. It's such a crap shoot.

Dang, 10-15 people for the matinee?  Yeah, it really is.  So many variables.

When you say "they made everyone..." who is they? Did people waiting in line decide this? Or did the RRT staff/box office decide this? I think having two lines for the two different shows on the same day is problematic - what if you are first in line for the Saturday matinee and there just happens to be no cancellation tickets for that showtime - it seems unfair that you couldn't just stay in line for another few hours and have the first shot at the evening show (especially if you got there first and have been waiting the longest for Saturday tickets), so I am interested to know if this happened because a patron decided to start the new line or if it is was an official decision by the RRT.

Well, this is interesting...4 celebs on May 18 who apparently got tix through SOLD.  Do they object in principle to obtaining scalper tix resale?  Must be nice to have such deep pockets, or shall we say pockets deep enough to have such deep principles...sigh...

As mentioned, I was #9 at 3am and didn't get a ticket because I passed on a single at noon, wanting to see it with my husband.  Had I accepted it, arriving at 3am, at #9 WITH four line sitters ahead of the line, odds weren't so terrible.

Yes, a crap shoot.  All depends on the bet you put on the table.  My bet was for two tix that didn't pay off.

That's one thing we have going for us -- I very very much want to see the show, but my daughter is the super-fan and if there is only one ticket available, she's getting it.  So we have a little flexibility there.

That's what I was told. I used a sitter and I only wanted evening so I got there after. But the guy behind me said he was trying to count and said it was at least 10 for the matinee and he though 12 or 13 got in.

Are you sure the SOLD guys didn't get in to the show because of the new policy and just take pictures with celebs? I really doubt Spielberg couldn't get a comped seat and would have to resort to hiring a line sitter.

Typically, yes.  You continue to wait for Sat evening but if someone comes And claims first spot for Sat evening before matinee tickets are distributed, not interested in matinee at all, then one must line up behind them after matinee tix are distributed.

"This is no longer true. I was there last night and highly disappointed that the line rules had been changed by the patrons. I even got the theatre involved. They agreed with the patrons that if they don't get tickets one day they can stay online and be the start of the new line the following day. In the past (a mere week ago!), there were two lines running and if you didn't get your ticket for instance for a Thursday evening show, you could go to the back of the Friday line. It's all a mess now.

I can't say for sure, but the fact that they mentioned having to buy 4 tickets wasn't so bad led me to believe their 4 customers were the people they were photographed with.

"having to buy four tickets" as in two line sitters + two customers is the reason that the line sitters got in to see the show. You cannot honestly believe that Steven Spielberg has to hire a line sitter to get a ticket.

It looks like one sitter posed with 3 celebs inside and one another spotted one outside.

Nice perk!  Unfortunately, in my line of work, we cannot pose with the celebrities we wait on and post on social media.  That is grounds for termination due to it could be misinterpreted as endorsement.  One girl got fired for posting a sales receipt of an extremely high profile person.  I'll just say the secret service managed to pull it down as fast as it went up!  Big Brother is watching!!!!!!

Well in the past before a week ago the first way you describe is how the cancellation line worked. When my friend did the line a month or two ago they sold the very last matinee ticket to the person in front of her, so she was the very first person for the evening line. There was no two lines nonsense.

"Well, that should have been posted in the new commandments, because it hadn't been that way for well over a month.  Whether you think it's nonsense or not, that's the way it had been. You have patrons being sticklers for "rules" when it benefits them but willy nilly and just making up other stuff that suits them. This needs to be written in stone as well, because it is definitely an issue that will cause problems in the future.

Maybe it'd be valid to say it's unsafe to wait on the street by yourself as a woman in Spanish Harlem, but Times Square? Really?

MinervaMoon said: "Also, about the women and safety thing, it's not sexist to say that a woman by herself is typically less safe than a man by himself due to multiple factors (including that women are preyed upon more than men are, and that if a woman is attacked by a man, she likely has less physical strength). Saying that it would be prudent to be cautious is not the same thing as saying that every man is a rapist, and that kind of irrational, hyperbolic statement just shows a profound misunderstanding of the underlying point.

While it has seemed to be pretty safe by the Richard Rodgers so far, even overnight, people are getting hilariously angry at the mere suggestion that no situation is 100% safe, as though the honor of the theatre/line needs to be defended or something. If you want to assert that a young woman will probably experience no trouble, just say so. You don't have to overreact and call something "sexist" that patently isn't.
"

We'll have to agree to disagree. Maybe it was the part about the obviously-not-female line sitters 'looking after' the women on the line that I interpreted as sexist? Because that's some patronizing bull**** if I've ever heard.

It is VERY DANGEROUS outside the Richard Rodgers Theater.  Not safe for either men or women.  Please do not line up for tickets at night.  Go when there's a lot of daylight and people in the area, around 10 a.m.

When I saw the show earlier this year, Rosie was in the audience too. Back last fall, I saw John Tesh there as well... so they've seen the show several times! I'd think they would get them from the box office though, not from the cancellation line but who knows?

I'm currently on vacation this week by the beach so I took a break from reading this message forum the past few days yet I feel like I missed a lot! Lol! Will be back Sunday and whether or not the rules stay or more rules are added, I hope the cancellation line is civil! Good luck to everyone lining up soon!!! I just signed up for the Hamilton digital lottery though I already know I won't be using them so those tix would go to the cancellation line.

Hehehe!  Actually 10 AM is pretty early, I think it's a better idea to go at like noon… or two, two is nice and safe.  Hamilton Cancellation Line
